I have 2 daughters in Indian. The storms went north and south of them.
They sent me photos of dammage that is horrific. There were old clasic cars sitting crushed on the slap and tossed around like toys.

I was just wondering if anyone here on this forum lost thier garage, home or loved one. Or if you know anyone that did. I was thinking it might me nice to start a support group for any menbers of this forum that had a loss. If there are any in need we could set up a trust fund to help them get back on their feet with new tools or we could donate tools we don't need or use.

If a mechanic looses his tools do to a storm he is wiped out for the futrue becaue he makes his living with them.

I am willing to donate a flate rate US Post box full of tools. You can get a lot of them in a $15.95 box. The forum can collect the money. We can send the tools direct to the person if there is proof of thier loss.

Any thoughts?

Re: Tornado Dammage?

My parent/childhood farm was hit last April 18th. It was heartbreaking to say the least, but like everything you pick up and start over. Lucky for us the house was not hit, but the barn, gargage and car storage shed were gone. My brother lost his 68' galaxie, it just got too much damage and most was sent to the scrapper, it did do a good job of protecting my firebird from the debris. My thoughts go out those effected by this latest outbreak of tornados. An as always an ounce of preparation goes a long ways.

I live about 30 min. north of Heneryville. The news ran story about a guy that just opened a garage in August, he had a car on his lift when sombody ran in and got him. If you've seen the photo of the school bus thrown in the front of the building he was in the basement under the bus! Anyway, all i could see of his shop was that lift sticking up and his new sign on the ground. His quote was" I've worked all my life for this, now look at it.... I've been through hard times before". Now that should hit every gearhead on here stright in the heart......it did me.

We live 15-20 minutes south of Henryville. I work with several people that live there. A few lost their homes. We collected some clothes and bought groceries to donate to the relief effort. The community outreach has been massive. Makes me feel lucky to have what we have!

on May 10th 2010, an EF4 came through my neighborhood. It was about 300 yards wide and moving like a freight train. My street caught the outer band and although my damage was minor in comparison to my neighbors one street over which was total.

What I found impressive was not even 5 minutes after the tornado left my neighborhood, we were descended upon by every utility, EMS, and law enforcement agency. We had law enforcement lock down our neighborhood within an hour. For three weeks, the Red Cross would come and bring us hot meals donated by so many merchants. We had people bringing us water, gloves, and trash bags that they bought with their own money or were donated. Dealing with insurance wasn't so joyful though so I hope to never go through that again. The community and local government response made me thankful that when I really needed help, there were people and agencies ready to step up. Now if we can get the Insurance industry to come up to the same standard. My heart goes out to everyone in distress right now because of the weather.
