I recently purchased a torpedo heater for my pole barn garage....

125,000 BTU Kerosene Forced Air Heater With Thermostat

It takes

Multi-fuel tested: K-1 Kerosene, Diesel, #1 and #2 Heating Oil

Any Idea what burns cleaner? I read on the warning label "may cause cancer in California"

lovely...

or anyone have any ideas on venting a pole bar without loosing all the heat?

I did the same thing to heat while under construction and I hate it. I bought a 75,000 btu torpedo, tried different vendor's of kerosene and it stinks and burns eyes when its running very long and my garage isn't insulated or sealed up yet. I guess the labels say "May cause cancer in California", good thing we dont live there! LOL

See if you can find some jet fuel... burns way cleaner ( and somewhat hotter) than kerosene. I used to use it in my torpedo heater...even a 50/50 kero/jet fuel mix will help a lot.

Both K-1 and Jet A burn real clean in mine, tried diesel once, never again. Just ran it out of fuel this evening, gotta go looking for more tomorrow. K-1 here in town is $3.79 pumped from bulk tank at convenience store, closest airport is $3.94, but one place not far is $3.50.

Don't worry... according to California, EVERYTHING causes cancer.

Before I installed my vented heater I used a 35,000 BTU torpedo and ran it on diesel fuel for years. In my opinion it stunk worse when running kerosene. Doesn't burn quite as hot on diesel, but still pretty darn hot.

I'd buy off road diesel from the local FS store. Even road tax diesel is cheaper than kerosene around here.
