I am in the process of rebuilding my first automatic transmission, and there are a couple of adjustments using a torque screwdriver (torque in the 10-30 in lbs range). AutoZone shows a torque screwdriver in their loan-a-tool program on the website, so I went to rent one and found that they are not known to anyone in the stores, and not shown on the in-store list, which is frustrating. I can't find anywhere locally to buy one - I have some time this weekend to finish up the rebuild so can't order online and get it in time. Also, at the risk of being thrown off the forum, I really don't want to buy an expensive tool for one-time use!
Anyone any thoughts how to improvise a torque screwdriver? I was thinking of some sort of t-handle and a luggage scale, but at 10 in lbs I am not sure I can get a scale accurate enough to work. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!
