Torque Wrench advice

I have changed wheels when fixing cars for a living daily for many years. I know other technicians say to use a torque wrench. But guess what.. I never have. You can see feel and hear when an impact hammer has tightened a lugnut enough.

Never have a vehicle i have fixed had issues with wheels coming on. And were talking THOUSANDS of vehicles. What i have experienced is new clients coming in, and not being able to loosen lugnuts using the impact hammer.

So over-tightened.... like most fasteners, it's rarer to find under-tightened ones. That the problem, some don't have the "feel" and torque the **** out of them with an impact... drives me nuts.

Simple. If you have never cared enough to torque your lugs before, then a HF will be more than sufficient to get them pretty close. No sense in buying an expensive one when you never cared enough before to do it.

I would never recommend a HF one to anyone for any reason. Even if someone is just doing lugs with it, there's a chance they may need it for some other repair. Or perhaps it might be inaccurate enough to end up with the lugs being too loose or tight. Sure, buy HF breaker bars left and right but not their torque wrenches.
