Hello, I am the proud owner of a SO split beam torque wrence in mint condition that I paid too much for. It's a TQR250C . The question is, does this wrench also make a click noise when it hits the set torque?

Thanks

I'm not sure what too much is, as those wrenches are some of the best you can get.
Yes, it makes a click that you can both hear and feel. It is significantly louder than you'd get from a micrometer style wrench.

The other day, I was using mine to torque some lug nuts, and the "click" sound caught my father off guard. He thought something had just snapped. :)

Thats good to hear. I ended up paying $182.03 shipped to my door. Excellent condition, and with the original case.

That's on the high end of the price range from what I've seen, but not unreasonable.

The only reason I paid what i did was the condition. It really is like new. All they others i have seen had much much more use to them and i figured i would need to send them for calibration anyway.
but yeah also 26.00 of it was also shipping.....

Yeah, it really got him good. He just happened to show up as I was torquing the lugs, and wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing.

FWIW, I own two of these same wrenches, and they both have the same good click, so I'm guessing they're all like this. When it came out, this was the Cadillac of torque wrenches (in this size range). I don't do any torque+turn work, so I have absolutely no reason to "upgrade" to a digital wrench.

I'd suggest you get a digital torque adapter. Harbor Freight has one for less than $30. If your torque wrench is within specs, there is no point to spend money for calibration. Based on your description, the torque wrench doesn't seem to have been used much (less likely to be out of specs), worth the price you paid.

I have a Powerbuilt digital adapter for 4-5 years already and had no idea about the accuracy, until recently. It's basically dead on with 3 of my Snap On TechAngle wrenches. Quite amazing little adapters.

.... I don't do any torque+turn work, so I have absolutely no reason to "upgrade" to a digital wrench.

For me, the reason to upgrade to digital is: I want to know how much torque I actually applied to a fastener. There are quite a few incidences when I was expecting the torque wrench to "click", but it didn't, and pull it a little harder, still "no click". It's nerve racking, especially for those engine bolts.

With digital, I can see the torque value in real time, loud beeping, and handle vibrating. No more stress.

For lug nuts, anything works.
