Snap-On makes a Heavy Duty Removal Torx socket set (209EFTXBY). Why are they lsited as "Heavy Duty Removal"? Are they meant solely for removal as in impact work?
In other words, would they work for both tightening as well as untightening Torx bolts?, or would they strip, deform or otherwise damage the heads while tightening?
Thanks, RHP

A couple of observations from the Snap-On website: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?item_ID=1347&group_ID=11463
1. they are not impact rated
2. they come in a disk brake removal set (relatively high torque; makes sense the "heavy duty" label on the sockets
3. the bits are gold color; they usually are the heavy duty bits/sockets I have seen

Conclusion: I don't see why they would damage anything; they seem to be made for higher toque applications and are heavy duty.
Observe typical precautions when working with torx fasteners: make sure they are clean/free of any debris in the fastener (I use compressed air or carb cleaner for grease/dirt), make sure the socket bit is fully seated when using, put your hand on the head of the ratchet to keep the bit seated fully when loosening/tightening, use slow even pressure and be aware that all torx bits will break/strip... it not of "if" but a matter of "when"; the better quality stuff takes longer to break/strip out.

Yeah they all break.

When we get a full size ford f250/350 style truck in that needs a box removal, we can go through every torx bit in the shop. After they all break, we weld bolts on there. Ford trucks are torx killers lol.

I've got a '79 Bronco (original owner). What size Torx fittings are the seat belt & door jams?
(Sorry to hijack my own thread).
