Torx PLUS -vs- Regular Torx Bits?

I'm in the process of getting a torx driver kit, probably sockets. I'm wondering if I have to get both Torx PLUS, as well as regular Torx bit sockets.

Can you use the Torx PLUS bits in regular torx fasteners? I've read you can use Regular Torx bits in Torx PLUS fasteners, if you go gentle on the torque, but can it go the other way around?

Or do I just need to **** it up and by two sets, the PLUS and Regular... Oh, and female "E" sockets too? Specifically, this is for working on my German Motorcycle. Thanks.

Different bits that are not interchangeable.

The Plus is rather new to the scene and used in a lot of special application like SRS and seat belts and things like Ford pickup bed bolts.

Get the std. torx first, then assess the need for the Torx Plus based upon what you will be working on.

They look similar but the Plus have a more flattened star point at each connector rib and different degrees of angle on the star tooling thus the lack of interchnageablity.

E-torx(meaning external torx or the female type ) sockets are pretty common and can be found from many tool mfgrs.

Wow, that's a beauty of a beast of a kit! Are they all the same drive size? Doesn't say anything about that in the Amazon description. 3/8" drive? Know the Country of Origin? Didn't say anything about that either, not even in the one positive review. Never heard of O.T.C. before, but that looks nice! I'm going to have to check these out. Thanks for the tip!:rocker:

I have a similar set and the drive sizes vary from 1/4 to 3/8 to 1/2 for the large bit sockets.

My guess is the COO is Taiwan, making it a well made tool set. My set is Taiwan as well with no issues over 6 years of use.

It is Taiwan, and I think they are mixed drive sizes. Can check tonight when I get home.

OTC is in Owatonna MN. Hence Owatonna Tool Company.

My Grandpa on my Mom's side used to be a big wig over there. I have lots of hand me down tools from there.
