Found a cheap donor and I'm going to attempt to replace the battery on my cell phone. I need T3 and T4 screwdrivers.

I've been searching Lowes, Harbor Freight and Menards (we don't have a Home Depot) and the only set I've found containing both sizes is an Eklind 10-piece set at Menards for $56. I could buy two sets to get both sizes for less money but then would have a lot of redundant sizes.

Some of the Kobalt sets at Lowes don't list all of the sizes in the Specifications tab.

$56 seems kind of high for a set of screwdrivers that I assume will get minimal use. Any suggestions for a bang-for-my-buck set containing both T3 and T4?

Or should I just buy into a quality ratcheting screwdriver and get the bits I need separately? I've used a couple of different Snap On ratcheting screwdrivers and a tool of near that quality would be a welcome addition to my shop. Not sure I'm willing to pay that price, however.

I bought a kobalt set from lowes a few years ago that I think had those sizes... I will look when I get home. Otherwise check out wiha, I'm pretty sure they would have it. Should be able to find them on eBay or Amazon.

Sears had a nice set, I bought them off Ebay or through someone on the Craftsman forum some time ago. Not sure about now.

I know it's expensive but I've been eyeing this set. There's something to be said for never having to worry about having the correct precision screwdriver for the task:

I have a set of Wiha precision drivers (not including torx) and they are excellent drivers. I have a single T3 Wiha that i got for cell phones. At work i have a Moody precision torx set, which is just as nice as the Wihas.

I also have 1/4 insert bits for small torx sizes, but find that i don't have the control i want when using them in a regular bit holder screwdriver. If you're going to go this route you'll probably want to get a precision bit holding driver (like the Wiha 66850).

I have Wiha precisions (not torx) and they're really nice. Looks like it's about $24 for both on amazon. $42 gets you T1-T8 Wiha precisions .

There's a ton of options under $10 that include T3 and T4 on amazon too.

I love Wiha precision drivers. I have a similar set to what Davefr posted, but mine came in a blow molded tray rather than the stand.

If you don't want to wait for shipping or don't want to pay Wiha prices, Craftsman recently came out with a small cell phone repair kit for around $15 that has some small Torx in it. I couldn't find it online, but I did find an Olympia tools branded one that looks the same.

I bought the full set of Wiha drivers about 10 years ago. Thought i'd rarely use them - wow was I wrong! Awesome tools, and super useful. Can't say enough good about them!

What kind of phone? Usually if you buy a new screen they come with the drivers and tools necessary to do the job with it for free.

I'm going against the grain on this one. We all love quality tools but unless you envision using T3 and T4 frequently I'd suggest one of the inexpensive "cell phone repair kits" found on Amazon or Ebay. Amazon Example

Just buy the individual pieces from sears. Precision torx...usually you're looking at a cheap kit at retail, works but nothing fancy. Small sizes like that shouldn't be any problem turning the fasteners with low end stuff.

Kobalt did have a precision driver set for like 3-4 bucks with a case a couple months ago, doubt they still have them though. Quality is iffy but not awful enough to matter to me. Some times with electronics you need a specific bit that they don't sell at retail, just saying. I'm too lazy to go look now but torx is at least standardized and sold fairly normally at retail vs some other stuff.

During my working life, I frequently needed to disassemble phones, Blackberries, & hard drives for memory & media destruction purposes. (DOD security concerns) I bought small sets of Moody JIS & Torx drivers in the smallest sizes, and they always served me well. I got them from Amazon; not inexpensive, but good quality.

I'll probably get run under the bus, but I have a set of Craftsman precision Torx drivers that have lasted me 15 years, with about half that time as part of my tool kit for work (computer tech). Never had one of them round off on me and they all had very good fit on the screws I used them on.

I think I briefly tried a ratcheting bit driver but unless I used the long bits, the bits were too large to fit into many spaces inside a laptop computer.

Voi,

If you have a True Value or Ace Hardware near you, you can purchase that 10 piece, Eklind Torx precision screwdriver set for $25. I purchased one several years ago.

For that size you're not going to use a lot of torque and frequency of use is not high, so anything with a decent brand you can find online should work fine. I was replacing a broken cover glass on my son's iPad 1 a couple of months ago and discovered I needed a T5 and T8 was the smallest I had in my set. I went to HD, a local lumberyard hardware store that is usually well stocked, TSC, Staples, Radio Shack and found nothing. I would have ordered on Amazon, but it was something I was looking to get done that day, finally found set of bits with that size at Advanced Auto. For $8 it's one of those things I'll probably never use again, but would have been nice to get a better brand from Amazon.

I don't know who made them 15 years ago, but I think the current Craftsman precision drivers are made by General. I never liked the handles on the ones I've used very much; the cap tended to bind up instead of rotating like it's supposed to.
