Why does torx size go from 25 to 27 then 30 skip 35 then 40, 45, 50
What is the deal with 27 out of order, and skipping 35?
Just curious

Looked it up on Wikipedia, and didn't really get too much to help. It mentions the sizing Tx, x being related to the distance, point-to-point, of the "star", but a T20's measurement isn't twice that of a T10. Too lazy to see if it's logarithmic.:)

Suggest you ask the folks at Acument (formerly Camcar-Textron) as they are the owners of the Torx patents. As a manufacturer of the tools, I agree... it is a strange system.

I am not even sure what they mean by point to point. Opposite points? Adjacent points?

Are they the same when it is a socket vs. a Torx head fastener, P-to-P that is. They should be, I think, right?

Don't forget about E-Torx!

But torx bits are measured from point to opposite point and is in multiples of 0.1mm. So a T20 bit is 2.0mm across. There are some oddball sizes, maybe they were proprietary sizes at one point in time, and now they're more mainstream?

Oh and has anyone ever come across a torx plus bolt? I just bought an OTC master torx set from the mac guy and it comes with e-torx, torx, torx plus and tamper proof torx.

I think they came out with some original sizes and then added oddball new ones later in between the old sizes. And then that must not have been enough, they came out with "Torx Plus". I think most of those were later.
I have a "GM style Torx" that was said to be T50 but different. Snapon # FTX500. For working on the door striker posts on things like Chevrolet Citations. I think they later started calling it T47. It looks like a Torx Plus,I think it was invented before they starting calling anything a "Torx Plus". So is it really the grandfather of "Torx Plus"? I have a cheaper silvery looking one piece one that says T-47 USA on it,I think it was given to me by a GM mechanic or came from an old catalog. Doesn't have a brand name on it that I can see.
Those golden look drivers are pretty but all of the Plus ones seem to be kind of tanned grey. Lots of chances to get mixed up as to the exact right one that fits.

BMW air flow meters often have tamper proof Torx Plus ( 5 lobes with pin, unlike normal Torx Plus with 6 lobes )

Many BMW engines also have E-Torx bolts

Dallus,

One of the driver's seat track bolts on a 2003 Subaru Forester has a Torx Plus head.

I got that same set I think, mines called Boxer. I noticed it had security t-35, but not a regular t-35. Haven't used it yet so not sure what it'd be for. :headscrat

My bad!! It is a Boxer brand. Its out in the truck right now, so I'm too lazy to go and double check on the t35 bit.

Also, looking at a set on ebay, they dont list a t7 bit in it...

What I wouldn't give to have that set be all Wiha bits including the torx plus and tp tamper proof.. :)
