Torx Sizes?

I've been thinking of getting some Torx drivers what are the common sizes? Also how big of a set should I get? I prefer to buy a full set and be set for the rest of my life but I don't want to waste money if I won't need most of them.

Are You looking for Socket type or screwdriver version? I believe my biggest one is 60, I cant recall using it but have used the 55 occasionally along with the smaller ones for Headlights and numerous Cars applications. There is alot of middle of the Road sizes that i havent used, but I have them if the need ever arrises.

I think this is one area where you need the full set. I use T15 though T55 often enough. T15 and T30 are very common on my euro car. My old GM car used T40 and T45 quite a bit.

Get a set that has T10 through T50, the socket-bit type.

The Craftsman Pro long set is $35 and covers all the sizes I would use a screwdriver for.

I'd go for the anti tamper version if possible, these sneaky fasteners are popping up more often these days.
Bluepoint do good ones.

@Americanlockpicker : You need screwdrivers Torx 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40. You can also purchase the Torx 27, i heard that BMW's motorcycles are full of this Torx size.

ps : for all sizes above Torx 40, you need sockets.

I know that Snap ON makes a T70 bit. I have one and have used it a very few times. I used it on a 2005 Subaru "somthing" to drain the converter.

If you work on jeeps you will want up to a T-55
You definitely want sockets above a T-30
IMO screwdrivers above T-30 are worthless.

I use T8, T9, T10, T15 a lot on tools & pocket knives.

I mostly use the t-15, t-25 and t-30 on my car.
At work, i use t-6 through t-10 and t-15.
If you need to open up hard drives, cell phones and other small devices, I'd recommend getting the t-6, t-7, t-8, t-9, t-10 and t-15 too.

Are antitamper ones weaker than regular ones?
Some times you really have to check whether you have one that fits or one that looks like it fits,almost fits but not quite right just a little loose-also the Torx Plus problem
I agree that little ones are OK in bits that fit in a ratcheting screwdriver
Big ones should be socket driver style ?????? Use a hand impact driver with one?????

The T70 is used to drain the front differential on Subaru Imprezas. I picked up my T70 for about $5.00 at Autozone. It is the Great Neck brand and is fine for the number of times that I need to drain my front diff.

wiha makes a nice set of screwdriver ones, T5-40 complete. T40 is too big for a screwdriver, probably T30 also, but you get everything else so I bought the set. I think I got it from Amazon.

You are probably right. I knew it was for a Subaru, the only reason I remember that is that it was the only time I have ever used it.

I got a pb swiss set [ t10 threw t30 ]on amazon for $16.00 then bought separately t35, t40, t45, t50. search amazon for pb swiss 400 or pb swiss 6400
the multicraft handles are nicer.

i would def make sure to get a t15, it seems to be common on appliances.

T60 is used for the brake caliper bracket bolts on the early GM W body cars used on the Buick Regals,Chevy Luminas and Monte Carlos,Pontiac Grand Prixes and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.Chrysler is doing away with torx bits and switching to 5 star bits.GM has too for the mass air flow sensors starting in 2005.

All are excellent and affordable. I use the Craftsman most, mostly out of habit. The GearWrench ones are awesome as well. I really haven't used the Snap-On very much. I haven't ran across any security fasteners on any of the bikes I've worked on...

I have the standard C-man clear handles. The 6 that come with them cover most everything that you will need a torx screwdriver for working on cars. GM used a lot of t-15 in the 80s to early 90s.

I also have the Snap-on torx socket set. Up to t-50. As the others said if its bigger than t-30 you need a socket.
