Torx Tamper Resistant Plus

The new fuel systems that we are working on are from Niki (Japan). They have screws that appear to be 5 point torx without the pin. I purchased the $300 Snap-On set of torx tamper resistant plus. The T20 strips out the screws and is very sloppy in them. The T25 is too tight and has to be hammered into the screws. Does anybody have any ideas of whats wrong? Could the bits be made wrong or is there a difference between stuff from Japan and what is here in the states?:headscrat

I think the problem is that some torx tamper resistant plus are fractional like the one Merkava pointed out and some are metric using the TXX designation.

Oops ... my mistake ... looked at drive size instead of torx size; please ignore :(

BTW .. I have a SK set and have never encountered any problem ..

How is one to know the difference between the metric and the fractional? They are so close in size, is there a color code that indicated which is which? I can see this becoming a problem for the future. Do the fractional have metric threads on the screw end, or are they USS/SAE?????

They have screws that appear to be 5 point torx without the pin.

That adds another element of mystery to the case because from what I can tell from surfing Google is that all the 5 lobe screw heads have pins in the center. Torx plus without the center pin is a 6 lobe. :dunno:

I have a set of Security TorxPlus made by WIHA. Have a few odd bits from Hazet before I bought the whole WIHA set from ChadsToolbox

That is the set that I purchased. I've googled for a 5 lobe without a pin and can't find anything. The factory tools for this are a 3 piece screwdriver set. The manufacturer recommends using the torx tamper resistant plus bits. After spending that much money on a bit set that I still have to get the hammer and a chisel out to remove the screws is depressing. The only different 5 lobe that I found is one that takes a bit that has a centering pin in it. These screws do not have a recessed hole.

I hate leaving this case unsolved; I wish I had the screws and the driver sockets right in front of me for close examination....

There's something called a "Japanese Industrial Standard" (JIS) that those screws might be made to and maybe why the Snap-on drivers don't fit.... I'm throwing that out there in case someone else knows more about it.

http://www.amco-products.com/densai.htm This company sells torx plus tamperproof in two different specifications. I purchased a TP70 bit from them. Quality product $50.00 for a TP70 minimum $100.00 plus they charge you to use a credit card. Their address and phone number is on the site. Michael White knows the product and will have it on a UPS truck the same day if you call in the morning.

No wonder they made it difficult for ya. They don't want ya killing yourself. Leave it alone and buy a new gas valve

Opps, Allow me to rephrase that:

It's Elroy OPINION you should leave the valve alone and buy a new one.

Ya, that's it. Leave it alone

What ever that is I'm fairly sure its not a torx or at least its not in the conventional sense.

$800-$900 vaporizors that have to have fuel pressure adjusted on them. The screw that is pictured is the same as the (2) that hold on the cover for the fuel pressure adjustment. Those were pretty torn up, tried to find the best looking screw for the Kodak moment.

are these gas valves for propane systems?......................what is the application?

These are vaporizors for the tier 2 carb compliant LP trucks (forklifts). Basically the same as tier 1 that started around 2004.

I don't know of any links to the Nikki vaporizor put here is a picture of the whole system. It's a Nissan drivetrain that is used in Nissan, Cat, Mitsubishi, and TCM forklifts. The vaporizor is at the top of the picture, left of the battery.

Looking at the screw heads it might be a bristol. Searched for a 5 point bristol and couldn't find anything. 4 and 6 points only:headscrat

Here is a company that make security 5 point Torx but they dont seem to friendly. http://www.wihatools.com/700seri/716_IPR_serie.htm (Stated before)

The only other idea I have is its a tore up Posidrive. MORE INFO HERE!!! Or a hex head internal Torx. (Good luck with that!!!!!)

The only other idea I have to open it is a Gatorgrip but they don't work too well. :headscrat

Here's a great little set, its got the security indent to keep all bases covered. Obviously you can use it just fine on TorxPlus non tamper resistant as well as the tamper resistant screws.

Here are some pictures of the drivers that were originally issued. OSG corp. is the manufacturer. I did a search and came up not knowing how to read chinese. The ends have more taper to them than the torx style. Only one of the drivers has information on it, its stamped on shaft and something that I can't read is stamped in the handle. Any ideas?

Well all your problems are now solved. Now that you're through tampering. We trust that you're not going to be looking for the same type of tamper resistance replacements.

Yeah, I wish. The only thing is that I'm needing 1/4 drive bit sockets. These drivers are to long to get in and remove the screws, so I can start my tampering.
