got there when they opened.

The 50% off mechanics tool set- not a single one in stock. Not sold out mind you, just not a one in stock.

Screwdriver set 50% off, not a single one in stock. Again, not sold out. I got there when they opened. Just they did not have any.

Other mechanics set on sale, oh wait, that was Wednesday, not today. And sold all four of them they had.

Craftsman 50$ stool- all on hold, no more in stock

Couple things to find out if you can. Was the sale a local Sears sale or a corporate Sears sale?

I ask because there was a huge issue with store managers running "sales" to clean out 2 or 3 remaining stocks. Store managers have been dismissed for this practice. But if it was a corporate sale, then well they may have just been low on stock. It is close to Christmas after all.

Thanks! I used to laugh at easy to read stuff.
20/10 vision and still good to go for most stuff.

But....
in my 40s in the last year or so I have been having a tough time reading faint stuff like on a drill bit and especially in low light...
the lenses have finally stiffened up like they often do about that age and the eye muscles get tired trying to pull it into focus I guess.

I am probably going to be buying easy to read tools and reading glasses before long.

Sort of like the date on watches by the day marker. I used to laugh at why they would put a magnifier over them on some watches. Now I know.

It was a several page color flyer in the paper. It was a corporate deal from the looks. The locals working in the store could not have been too thrilled to have people asking for tool sets they have never had in the store or getting mad about stuff that was advertised in a way they were not still on sale.

Overall, I thought I might hear from a few guys that had something similar happen to them today. Did not mean to get so fired up.

I think we all are ticked at Sears. Just another example of a once great company going down the crapper while trying to search for maximum profits. Most of the time it works, and the consumer never notices the lower quality. I own mostly craftsman stuff and its almost all older USA made stuff. If it breaks, I dont think I'll even bother bringing it back to sears if they are going to warranty it with a ROC replacement. Thats too bad, because in the past when I need to warranty an item, I'd almost always go on a spending spree to buy more tools while I was there. Its just depressing. If I wanted a ROC/Taiwan made tool I would have never been in Sears to begin with.

For a son turning into a teenager I did check out a more recent sale ad.

Three of the three items were in stock.

One of which was a non US made rolling stook, and the other two USA made craftsman tool sets. One small set, and the other a larger one.

They may not be perfect, and they may have ticked me off-
but the tools in both those sets were a good deal and made here.

I also spent a little extra on Cooper Cobras for the Javelin made here,
instead of some Firestones on sale.

If you had spend more time reading at this forum you would have known that the general comments here regarding made in Taiwan (not China) tools are that they are of very good quality. I wouldn't want my made in Taiwan GearWrench ratchet be replaced by the USA Craftsman standard ratchet.

I may not want to pay three times as much for a US made set as a Chinese set, but if none of us are not willing to pay any premium at all more for US made stuff, this is not going to be a very pretty country in another few decades.
Even though I am probably seen as a hater of the truck brands by some on here, I'd GLADLY pay triple for Snap On. We're not talking about that though. We're talking about much, MUCH more of a pricing gap.

Example: Today, I bought a 39 piece Duralast (Made In Taiwan) 1/4" drive socket set that included both metric and SAE sockets in both deep and shallow along with a nice ratchet and extensions. The whopping total cost was $26.99 + tax. I looked on the Snap On site and even though they don't offer a really comparable set contents wise, I searched around and finally quit looking when the total reached over SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS for comparable pieces.

That's just stupid. Stupid. Did I say stupid?. No way am I going to pay well over TWENTY TIMES MORE for tools that are maybe 15 or 20% "better" (whatever that means) when mine are just as shiney, carry the same warranty, etc., etc.

I know it's been said before but if you're fed up with Sears, the Duralast line at Autozone is a great alternative and IMHO, an excellent value.

Edit: I did find a comparable Snap On set.
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...6&group_ID=101&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog
"Only" $582.95. To be fair though, the Snap On set goes up to 9/16" and 14mm and mine only goes up to 1/2" and 12mm respectively.

its what the market demands or just plain consumer ignorance, as a consumer looking for domestic products you just need to do your research. Got a new pair of boots recently myself, Chippewa, i think they literally make about 10 models [if that] in the states still and the rest are china. I was not too happy when i saw the china tag on a $150 pair of Red Wings.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Red Wings Made In China???? You've got to be freakin' KIDDING me!!! I've been wearing Red Wings for 30 years and they've been the absolute best boots ever. Oh man, this is bad....
