I'm curious about what it costs to heat/cool your shops.

(1) In what state do you live?

(2) How large is your shop?

(3) How much insulation do you have in walls/ ceiling ?

(4) Whats been your worst power bill in the last year?)

I'm curious as to what you have done to reduce your power consumption....Maybe we can all save a few bucks by sharing ideas.

4- $ 0.00 but I heat with wood (form an out side wood boiler) so i guess I have to figure the gas fro the chain saw and wood splitter $50.00 for the year!

The gas bills are what is bad this past winter. My heating bill for house averaged 280-300 a month since Nov-Mar

I have skylights in mine, it really helps out, in the day time I dont usually use the lights at all. And I have my shop on a seperate meter.

I think you should also ask what kind of heat people have in the garage. Gas, or electric. Is it fourced air? With or without a duct system. Does anyone have infloor heat? When you talk about insulation what about the concrete slab. Edge insulation makes a big difference in the floor temp.

You may have a seperate meter for electric but what about the gas meter. Without seperate metering you would not know what the garage uses versus the house.

I plan on blowing some additional insulation in the attic this year.
I heat with a propane Hot Dawg and it costs me $800.00/year. Thermostat set on 50. Propane jumped .25 cents/gallon last winter. electric bill runs $30./month.
I live on the north side of a pond so the winter winds blow across the ice and pound on the garage door.I only installed one 12x8 overhead door to keep the heat loss down.

50'X100' for 95625³ ft

50'X80' @ 76500³ ft has R13 walls and R13 ceiling with a double foil double bubble radiant barrier also in the ceiling. The rest 20'X50' @19125³ ft, is the same as above, but with an addtional R-25 batt in the walls and ceiling. The 2 spaces are divided with a R-19 wall.

The highest natural gas bill was $235/month The highest electrical was $240/month, not in the same months.

I keep the temp at 55 and including the house(2800 sq ft) my highest gas bill was 190.
