Tow chain storage ideas?

Before I insulated my shop I had 2X6 wall bays and I had some heavy angle bolted to the studs and I could store the chain in those bays. Now, my walls are insulated and finished so that option is gone. I have 6, heavy tow chains to store, probably 250+ pounds. I can weld up some brackets and stand the angle I have now off the wall a few inches, but someone that is more clever than I am probably has a great idea I can copy...so...tell me what that idea is!

Thanks

I like storing the chains on a stand so that idea is good. Past one I built for a shop I added wheels so we could move the stand when needed. Made it easier to load into a truck or have all available for tow or lift at our crane.

Decades ago, we built stands made of IIRC 2" pipe that we used to hang them from - spray them down with "shop spray" - a 50/50 mix of 15-40 motor oil and WD40 in a spray bottle - to keep the rust from starting. Nowadays at home I hang them on the 4x6 support beams for the overhang outside the shop, also sprayed down with shop spray.

I screwed some flat stock to the wall studs and in each bay I have a chain doubled twice and laid in there so I can just grab the hooks and pull out the chain I want. Short chains hang full length. Doesn't take up any floor space and keeps them handy

My grandpa has a chain stretched across the wall in his barn with all of his log chains hanging from it by their hooks. Works good and keeps them separate and up off the ground.

I have pallet racking in my shop, so angle iron was bolted across one upright end. Chains are hanging from that angle iron.

On a related note, I was moving some of my chains the other day, and I took the time to use a paint marker on the ends to write the length. Kind of a senior thing.

Ammo Cans are good. They are strong and stackable, plus they have strong handles.

That's what I do with mine. I mostly use mine with my jeep and occasionally with the truck to pull stumps. Either way, I'm carrying them to a vehicle. The smaller ammo cans are great as they hold one chain (25' 3/8 chain with hooks) and a couple accessories - keeps the weight down.

I store mine in a 5 gallon bucket, but keep it out of the rain (or drill holes in the bottom) our you will have a rusted mess.

I have a second bucket for tow strap, shackles, etc.

Talking about buckets - I love the Tidy Cat litter buckets. The square shape stores well with minimal wasted space. Can't stand the cat in the house but love the buckets.

I like to spray mine every couple feet with fluorescent red...then silver, etc. a few places. Easy to find especially in tall grass.
As other's said WD and/or oil. Buckets are good.

I only have one but it's heavy duty. I keep it in a canvas bag behind the seat in my truck because chances are real good that if I need to use it the truck will be involved.
