Tower Light Storage

How are you all safely storing and more importantly, transporting your tower lights?

I'm about to purchase one and my immediate thought was they can't just bounce around in the truck. Something like the M12 at 30" tall closed isn't too bad, but the M18 at 40" closed and with a base diameter of just under a foot isn't easily stored. DeWalt has similar offerings presenting the same issue.

The M18 2131 is my current favorite, and the only option I could see is maybe grabbing one of the rolling boxes linked below and trying to fit it in there diagonally on top of other things.

My m18 rides just fine in the bed of the truck.

I have that light and I fold it up and carefully toss it in the back of my 1 ton van. As long as you don't toss heavy stuff on it you should be fine.

It's good to know they're a little more rugged than I thought. I've also considered standing it up with a bungee to keep it from moving in transit.

My Rocket lights just get tossed in the back of my vehicle for transport, never had an issue.

At home they're stored on the wall in the garage. The M18 hangs from a metal storage hook on the wall, and the M12 sits on a 6"x6" shelf I cut from a scrap of plywood, and the top is held against the wall by two eye hooks and a piece of wire. The M12 is rarely stored though, it's almost always with me since it's so useful.

We have 2 Rocket lights at the station, one on each engine. One is strapped in vertically and the other is sitting on a bracket horizontally.

This is good to know. If the lights can take the beating of training and running jobs, it's even more reason to order one. Seems like 36V DeWalt on rigs wasn't long ago. Folks now must be grateful for the upgrades.

For bouncing, maybe tie it down or wedge it in between/under something (bed box, other tools?).

For general keeping it clean, maybe a duffle bag? That might also give you a place for batteries and charger.

This is great. I really wanted the M18 over the M12 and am now considering if I can mount it to the truck cap ceiling since it's a setup up first/tear down last item.

Are these used mostly interior for overhaul and the like or outside scene lighting as well?

Bouncing in transit is why I considered a rolling box, but you make a good point about a cover.

Sometimes my tailgate is a workbench and I send all kinds of debris into the bed. Most of my stuff is in Ridgid boxes, so not many worries, but the light would need dust protection.

Are you hauling the light far from the truck? One of our contractors has built his own tower lights in to his truck. If you're working in or near it, and you're up for some mods, that could be an alternative.

His were off road driving flood lights, mounted on 3 size telescoping conduit, with mini anderson connectors at the bottom and sockets to stand them up in. 6 of those, up to 20 feet above the bumpers on the truck, and he could light up half the chemical plant.

Here's long term storage for one I like to keep home all the time. Close enough when you need it, out off the way so I know where it is. I'll take some pics how I store one in my truck tomorrow.

I hang my rocket light on the wall. I hang it vertically from the handle on a hook. It works well. As for transportation, I throw it in the back seat of the truck or bungee strap it in the bed of the truck. No issues with either.

We use it on the interior of structures.
