I mean yeah it's overpriced. But Toyota also really isn't in the business of selling or manufacturing tools. So I doubt they're really making as much money as it seems on it.

The Toyotapologists will be along any second to extol the virtues of paying 8x the retail price for an item because it comes in a bag that says "Toyota" on it, which instantly makes it the greatest and most amazing thing that ever existed.

I use to just use a very sharp thin chisel. A lot of guys use sharpened putty knives. Then I had an instance where the gasket I was cutting into suddenly gave and the blade cut a tiny slit into the counterbalance housing. No major damage, I had plenty of time so I even did a quick grind and JB-Weld repair followed by sanding so you couldn't even notice it unless you were looking for it. All the same it was the last time I used a chisel on sump pan.

If you're watching Project Binky on YouTube, they've had to fab/hack a number of tools to do various ******/diff/motor things.

That's a useful link, this tool can remove the oil pan without damaging it. Almost same with Toyota.

It's actually shaped like a blade; toyota just rebadges that tool. It's a $25 tool, works pretty well too.

x2!! this is one of those tools that you only really appreciate owning after you have used it, hardened blade, hammer striking surface, does not gouge aluminum like a chisel , etc..
The link above pops open a nag informing me about BOSCH and something to do with privacy compliance.... weird
