I want to finish out a set of tools for repairs etc on my 99 Camry and 11 Corolla. I already have nutdrivers to 11mm, wrenches to 17mm (I know I need a few more in larger), and 3/8" 6pt chrome std depth sockets to 18mm.

To finish, I'm thinking of buying a set of 1/2" 6pt deep sockets to 19mm then add larger singles as I need them. What sizes will I need duplicates in 12pt and/or std depth or 3/8" 12pt std depth due to tight access?

Lug nuts = 21 mm
Brake caliper mounting bolts = 17 mm
lots of 8, 10, 12 and 16 mm so you're covered. Just need 21 mm and your good.

10, 12, 14, and 17 mm are the most common sizes. Add in 19 and 21 mm and maybe 8mm and you should be able to undo any bolt or nut.

I keep a 21mm socket and an extra long Harbor Freight breaker bar in my trunk for those times when I need to change a flat tire. You would be surprised just how long it takes to get at the original car kit tools with all the junk inside the trunk and having that tool ready to go makes it much easier.

hex head sockets in 5 and 10 for stuff like sway bar links and transmission drain

30mm for the axle nut and valve cover nuts. Could be 32 though. Not sure off the top of my head

I do the same as woody with the 21 deep well and breaker bar

Yep, noticed this on my son's '02 Camry--there's a mix of lugnuts on his vehicle. Some lugnuts take a 21mm, others go SAE 13/16". I suspect our local tire shop stripped some of the original lugnuts.

Largest I have run into on my ‘91 and ‘08 Toyota’s. 10mm and 14mm seem quite popular

Yeah 13/16 fits tighter, but after many cycles of an impact the corners begin to distort and the 13/16 gets harder to get on and off. The wife has no problem using a 21mm so that's what I stick to. It's her job to torque the lug nuts.

Yep. You won't need 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, or 20.

You'll need a deep socket, possibly 12 point, probably 30mm for the CV axle nut.

Maybe add 22, 24, 27, 30, 32, and 36 to the collection for suspension/driveline work as needed.

Toyota does a much better job than most of sticking to their JIS standards and normally using standard fasteners instead of inventing strange new stuff for absolutely no reason (lookin' at YOU, Ford and GM... :mad: )

You might need external torx for studs once in a while, usually E8 for M8 studs.

You'll also need a 10mm hex bit for some drain plugs.

You will need 11mm deep socket for TPMS nut. Some chassis fasteners are 13mm.
You will need 5mm, 6mm, 10mm hex for transmission drain plugs.

Thses are what I've found that get used on various vintage Toyota's, Honda's and older Nissian's.

8,10,12,14,17,19,21,22, 24mm sockets & wrenches,
Phillips/JIS screwderiver #1,2 & 3
30mm 12pt deep axle nut socket
4 thru 12mm hex bit sockets

TPMS nuts may vary depending on the kit that may have been installed, should be one of three though, 10,11,12.
