Tp Tools Complaint

So I live on an Island and needed to order some parts for my Skat blast box and TP Tools sells the replacement parts. So if you don't live in the 48 states, which I don't you have to call them and they will ship it out using USPS instead of UPS, I guess this is to save us money or something. Anyway I make my order and get charged $49 and something for shipping, pay for it and wait till it comes in.

It finally comes in and I noticed the shipping on the box says $40 something, so I say cool it's cheaper then what I paid for shipping and I should get a refund on the shipping charge since they overcharged me. So I call them up and explained the situation and they wanted my info- gave it to them and they tell me that the $9 bucks extra is for packaging.:headscrat:

Have you guys ever experience any thing like this from a big company?

Don't forget the cost of shipping to the shipper is much more than what is paid to the carrier.

Box, label, ink, labor paid to the person that did all the work. That plus the amount paid to USPS or other company is the real shipping cost.

Nobody can afford to provide all that for nothing. It will be paid for in some way or they can't survive. Raise product price or include in shipping price, either way it has to be covered.

Lots of places charge a handling fee. Most places say "shipping and handling" will be **.** dollars. The only reason you are upset is that you actually saw the shipping costs. Most businesses don't put the shipping costs on the box so you never know what the company actually pays for shipping. I would just chalk it up for the price of living on an island.

The $40 is one part of the SH. The order has to be well packed, and shipping label and forms filled out.. This involves material and labor; which is added to the total SH fee.

I may not agree with the seller's pricing breakdown on how much their packaging material costs, and in general, I think "handling" fees are a way nickel-and-diming the customer.

In my opinion, materials and labor costs to package and ship should be figured into the price of the item rather than tacked on at time of sale, or, at the very least, the entire shipping/packaging/handling cost breakdown should be masked from the buyer.

That said, regardless of all of that, I at least know what the final cost of the merchandise (including shipping/packaging/handling) is before my funds are sent to the seller, so it ultimately doesn't really matter how they break it down. If they say that a ballpoint pen will cost $1 for the pen and $50 to package/ship 20 miles, I have two options: Pay it, or find a different vendor.

Sometimes, you just need to ignore the breakdown, and look at the total cost of acquisition.

I buy a bunch of penny books on Amazon - $0.01 for the book, $3.99 for shipping. For a brief second, it's hard to reconcile that I paid $0.05 for five books, and $19.95 for the shipping. The proper way of looking at it is that I paid $4/book.

The only place I take real issue with overpriced shipping charges is eBay, which has clear rules about sellers circumventing eBay's fee structure by charging next-to-nothing for the item and tons on shipping.

Unlike Amazon Marketplace, which has a minimum fee structure and mandated shipping charges for specific items, and therefore will dip into your shipping allocation if you didn't charge enough for the item to cover those minimum fees, eBay only charges their static auction fee and a percentage-based final value fee.

Those weasels who play that game get their auctions reported when I come across them, because they make eBay more expensive for the sellers who play by the rules.

eBay fees are determined by the total of the final bid and the cost of shipping.

******* packing tape is expensive.

Just shop at a store if shipping fees bother you guys. Sheesh.

I think it's insane that Ebay charges a fee to sellers on shipping costs. I always add a couple of bucks to my shipping cost. It's not just the cost of tape. Fuel for the ride to the post office costs money too. Having them pick up, is not an option sometimes. I'm just passing my fees along.

49.00 for shipping. I understand the frustration, but it's the price they quoted, and you paid it. Maybe that's their set pricing to Hi. even though it was actually only 40+. I know some places have a set shipping no matter what to certain zip codes. I would chalk it up to experience. FedEx may have been cheaper.

Good points.

In our business, the problem with including the cost of handling across the board is that it (theoretically) penalizes the walk-in customer by making them pay for something they have no use for or would ever use.

Part II - totally agree - Cynically, I am waiting for the day when some well meaning politician submits legislation requiring shippers to provide the shipping/handling breakdown; $15.00 postage, $.50 tape, $1.39 box, $6.00 employee cost, etc. Your receipt will look like your phone bill. :lol_hitti

I sell on Ebay and I charge $1.00 over my shipping cost to pay for the padded envelope
(60 cents ) ,tape which is getting pricy unless you order a case. That's for small parts.I use flat rate boxes that will go to AL & HI for the same price as the other 48. Most businesses charge well over their shipping cost. This is just to make more money.

Then you're losing money, because between ebay and paypal you are paying a 15% commission on that shipping cost.

I guess I felt upset is because they make us (Hawaii) send it a different way. I would understand if this was a one man operation, but it's just like HF. I felt I got ebay'ed from a big company<- does that make sense?

Just like the mentality of some of the ebay sellers who believe Hawaii and Alaska is not part of the USA, they had to make a page just for sellers to educate them.

Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in blast boxes and replacement parts. If you ordered those parts—you didn't ship that. Somebody else made that happen.
