Hey Guys,

Figured it was about time that I started my own picture thread. Earlier this year we purchased a house with a 21x19 garage. Its not much, but its mine and I love it.

I've finally done enough tasks inside the house where I have the warden's (wife) approval to start slowly doing some projects on the garage.

Largest issue with my garage is whats above it. We have a large "Great Room" or whatever its called directly above the garage. While that room is awesome, it cuts into the garage space. As you can see from the pictures below, I have multiple protruding duct-work, and stairs that all cut into both the ceiling height and wall space. The Biggest bulkhead is 7ft and 7in from the floor.

I am sure I can make this garage awesome, but will need to pull off a few tricks in order to do so.

Anyways, here are some pictures I took from earlier in the year when I started cleaning out the garage. We had just installed two of the Chamberlain Whisper Belt Drive Openers. Its come a little way since then, but now I am able to have some more time to work on it.

Stay tuned for further updates....

So recently I tackled the privacy issue in the garage. Previously, shortly after we moved in I prepped the glass in the doors and sprayed them with a Rustoleum Frosted Glass product, which was supposed to be good for outdoors as well. It did a pretty good job for the look I wanted to achieve, but one the outside temperature was down in the -20 to -30 range, i noticed small hairline cracks started to appear. Also, condensation on the windows froze and then the frosted glass started flaking off. Here's a picture:

Frustrated that I spent a lot of time prepping the glass and doing multiple coats I scraped off all of the frosting with a Razor blade, then re-applied a frosted window film from Gila Films. Outcome is much better and I dont have to worry about it flaking off the windows anymore.

Couple more installs happening.....

Picked up these 8 foot T8 Lithona Fixtures from Home Depot. Installed them on the lowest part of the bulkhead and fitted them with Phillips T8 4100k bulbs. Light output is now seriously increased in the garage. I know they are not LED, but I only spend a few hours a week in the garage.

I tapped into the Hex box and ran some PVC to the fixtures to help keep things tidy. Pictures below.

Great job on the lighting fixtures, much improved over the builders special and really brightens the entire space.

Decided to insulate the garage doors this weekend to make things more pleasant for the winter months in the garage. Huge benefit noticed almost immediately.

I picked up some 1 inch Durofoam with a foil backing. The nice thing is I am getting the added benefit of light reflection off the foil which brightens up the garage even more.

On to some security bits.

I've played around with a few camera systems but settled on a UBNT solution for the house. For those that haven't heard of Ubiquiti, they make a lot of wireless point to point equipment, network equipment, etc, but also do video cameras. Prices are reasonable as well.

Anyways, below are a few pictures of the UBNT or Ubiquiti Unifi Dome 720p camera that I installed in the garage. This particular model is still current, but not one of their newest models, and it uses a ring mounting system. Therefore I got a 10 x 10 electrical box, drilled a hole to accommodate the camera and mounted it to the ceiling using a few drywall anchors and screws. Pain in the rear part was running the network cable.

This particular camera is PoE and i ended up picking up some Cat6 Shielded direct burial which has an sun exposure rating from Monoprice.

Here are some pictures of the install, and a demo video below.

What is your plan for a workbench? Are the walls of the garage insulated too?
