Has anyone out there purchased a Tire pressure monitor sensor reset tool. I have been warned that all are not created equal. Depends on make of sensor, vehicle and year. I tried my GMC dealer and they don't sell them. He referred me to a automotive chain and he then sent me to the Chevy dealer. No luck there as well. They sent me to another auto store. There I found one for around $700. A cheaper version was available but meant I had to replace all the sensors. I gave 2 sets of tires for this vehicle so the cost would have ended up costing me more than the $700. Has anyone found a unit that would work on a 2016 Sierra 1500 pickup?
I know that I can buy a generic unit off of Amazon but unsure if it would work.
So what works on my truck? My 2010 could be learned by starting in on corner and working your way around, with no tools. Frustrating!!:shocking:

Exactly what Badattitude referred. I bought one to use on my 2016 Silverado. Works great. This is also the same one my local Chevrolet dealer uses.

I bought that same kent-moore tool from my local Chevy dealer for $100. Works great. I have used it on a number of cars from 2007 to 2015. So far no issues.

On the newer trucks I find it a little hard to find the tpms relearn feature on the vehicles computer so it has been faster for me to connect my solus ultra and do it that way.

That's what I use on my 2012 Silverado. Works perfectly!

The tool is easier but no is not needed. All the tool does is force the sensor to send out a signal while not moving. The sensors will also send out a signal if the tire pressure changes more than 3psi. So all you have to do is put the system in learn mode and let air out of the tires until the horn beeps. Just make sure you start at the drivers front wheel and go counterclockwise around the vehicle.

Manual procedure doesn't work on 2016 and it's clockwise FWIW

Is it clockwise? Wow, I'm losing it. Been out of the business 3.5 years and already forgetting stuff. But I don't miss it one bit!

I fixed a 2017 several months ago, set the dash in relearn mode and go around with the tool and the horn will chirp after the sensor has been picked up. No need to drop pressure.

I use an ITC programmer

Same I bought and use on my 2012... Also cub made a tool that was cheaper and works and it also read the pressures and would allow you to clone the sensors... Not sure if it is still made....

I was looking for one a couple of years back, concerned that the location of the sensor was something more than just a position and pressure. I was informed that it was not. So I don't bother with reprogramming location when rotating the tires. If something is low then all the tires get checked and set to the nominal pressure.

Have things changed in the last couple of years making location critical?

The gm tool will program them per location when you put the vehicle in leaning mode after you rotate them. The light will be on showing which one to learn from the turn signal light. Drivers side front and then click wise. If you were lazy you can copy the code if you replaced one sensor for what ever reason, but I just relearn them all in the correct position with learning mode.

The manual relearn rarely worked on the older ones ('08-'12), now its not even an option, kinda piss poor on GM's part. I hadn't rotated my tires on my '14 since they were put on this winter and just found out you couldn't manually reset it. Stupid. Now either I leave it, bring it by the dealer or buy another damn tool.
