I agree. We're doing new construction right now and EVERYTHING has to be TR.

From my research (Garage Journal included), Hubbell makes the best tamper resistant mechanisms that aren't such a pain to use. I went with DR20WHITR.

The other factors are...
- when will 2020 Code be adopted?
- are they in fact 'required' to be used when replacing a receptacle in an older home?
- without a legal reason to stop, the retailer will still try to sell all their current inventory.

$9 an outlet ouch.

A local electrical supply house wanted around $7/piece. I found a guy selling boxes of 10 on Ebay for about $50. The title doesn't say Hubbell, but the photo is of a Hubbell box and the title is a Hubbell part number, so we'll see what happens when I get them. They should be here in a few days.

Paid with Paypal, so if they aren't legit Hubbell outlets Ebay/Paypal will refund me and I'll go to the local place for $7.

Plenty of mid range TR outlets work just fine. Most require some excercise to break in when they're new. 40 cent builder specials are ****, but they're **** anyways.

I haven't had any problem with the various TR's I have bought at Lowe's and Home Depot. $9 a piece? That's nuts unless it is getting stuff plugged in constantly

I replaced every outlet in my house with Leviton TR outlets from Home Depot. They're about $10 for a 10 pack, or $20 for a 10 pack of Decora style. I never have any trouble plugging things into them.

Tamper resistant receptacles have been required for at least the last 4 code cycles
They are not that much more than non TR ones. I get them from the supply house, but have bought from lowes and home depot. 9.00 a piece is just insane, are you buying them from grainger or somthing.

What locations are new in the 2020 code? I rewired my house when the 2014 code was in effect and I had to use TR on everything so far as I was aware.

I used the $1.19 Leviton receptacles from HD and they work just fine. Very rare to have an issue plugging something in.

There were some exceptions in residential .. more so in the commercial/ hospitality. They tightened them up. The new code is going to add costs to building a house -- mostly with the arc requirement.

The Hubble have a nice mechanism ... I'm doing black or brown in the base boards.

Haven't seen a tr receptacle I really liked. Can't say I've looked very hard through.

Probably less than 1/2 of the receptacles I install are TR. Many are in buildings were they aren't required and some are when the customer doesn't want them and I can get away with it.

Anything I've done I'm my own house has gotten non tr. Actually a lot of what I have installed in the several rooms I remodeled are salvaged spec grade brown receptacles. Just got a bunch of like new brown ribbed wall plates for them.
