Track lighting for workbench area

Need more light. I figured what I have in ceiling and other locations is not sufficient. I did have soffit area wired to install four 8' strips of track. Two on each side of the garage, with each strip controlled by it's own switch.

I have circled the places where I have power in the soffiet in the photo below. I think I'll only install track lights for now on the side shown in the photo. However I will go ahead and get four tracks to they will all match.

What is a good brand to buy for the track and the lighting? I did not see anything at home depot or lowes that I liked.

Then what type of fixtures would be good? Want to stick to ac current, I think. I would like fixtures that can illuminate a fairly wide area.

Just like reading you need the light on your bench to come from behind you and over your shoulders or you will get glare off whatever it is you are trying to work on.

I have light coming from the areas you mentioned but it's not enough to suit me.

I would like to have light come from overhead kind of like the sun does at noon.

That would do the trick. I do have flourescents everywhere else in the garage. I wanted to have the track lighting to I could direct the light right were I need it and also for a little different look, probably not as practical but that was my plan.

We've got some various track lighting in the house that I put up from both Lowes and HD. The hookup is easy and the rails will give you a bit more precision in placing the light where you want it but I have to say you wont get nearly the same kind of light you can get out of even a pair of T8s with a decent reflector. Besides the typical T8s I have flush mounted to the ceiling, I also have one hanging from some cable right over my bench with a pull chain just in case I need a little light on the subject.

Have you considered the typical T8 lights AND alternate task lighting -- like a workbench mounted luxo "desk lamp". You know like the one in the Pixar intro animation

I use these very effective lights on EVERY workbench. As I've grown older, I've become particularly partial to the ones with an integrated magnifying glass
