Thanks guys! We'll be at LS fest again this year. We are in Franklin, TN so we're only an hour away or so from LS fest. I started back with my first car when I was 15 and was mostly self taught from there, along with learning from other mentors in the community.
Sorry for the lack of updates guys I've been slammed! Finally hired my first good full time employee to help and it's been great so far! Nice to have someone reliable and early to work every single day.

Winter will be here before you know it, better start buying some insulation.
Already planning on it, I will not work another winter without it. Being in here when it's 20-30 degree's is not fun. It's bad enough now with Tennessee heat and humidity. Shop bakes like an oven. Insulation and some more fan's to bring fresh air in and **** all of the hot air out will be installed soon. Also framing out the downstair's for office space so we can stay warm this winter.

What size of wood is holding up the rafters? 2x16's? Also what are the 6x6 posts set on center? Thanks

Great thread, MUCH RESPECT! 
When I dropped and reinsulated the ceiling in my garage, it dropped the temps by 12-15 degrees this summer. In the winter, I damn near burn myself out with the wood burner. After your is insulated, it will be night and day difference.

Yeah, I'm trying to plan out the most affordable way to make this place a bit more comfortable this winter. I have (roughly) 4500 square feet of space I need to cover with insulation. I just need the cheapest solution for now that I can add to over time.
6x6's are set on 8 foot centers. We notched the 6x6's up top and double layered 2x12's all around and through bolted them. The trusses are spaced on 2 foot centers and are just supported by the wall's.
Video my buddy Mark Lenardon did for my company Track.One I need to get better speaking in front of a camera haha. I got my business loan April 14th of 2010 and moved the first car's into the shop on July 4th of the same year. Crazy how much has happened in only a year

This an absolutely F#%king amazing write up.. Great work, this is so inspiring for me. I'm 15 and have big dreams of owning a shop of this level one day. Thanks for spending the time to show this, good luck! Maybe when I get my license (4+years due to 13tickets) I'll drive out and check out the shop.

Thanks guys! I finally have time to get you guys an update! A lot has happened since the last time I've posted.
Everything has been paved! Well...with asphalt millings. In truth this paving company tried to scam us but with an F from the BBB among other things...we got the upper hand in this situation. It's quite the long story so I'll skip right to the pictures haha.
I love it compared to the gravel, but it has it's downsides. It is very soft when it's been raining and it is very easy to dig rut's in it. Even Ike my dog can easily dig holes in it. O well, hopefully it holds up over winter and then figure out a way to pack it harder when it's hot out again.
So much has changed, I've built more work area's, lots of organizing, and just recently framed out the downstairs into office space. Insulated and ready for winter I'm still not done but I'll keep you guys updated on it

Ike has also grown quite a bit!
Here is the office space which is still in progress. I'm still the only person working here so it's been hard juggling everything myself.
Make's me glad I used to work construction and was an electrician for 2 years...helps to know what your doing!
I decided to put my wiring table and another work bench for engine tear down's or other small job's. I would much rather be sitting in the nice heated office area then freezing in the shop haha.
I hate it being half done, and such a mess. But I only get a small amount of time to work on the place with how busy the shop has been lately. I have had a really hard time finding good help as well.
Front door to the shop is to the right..with another door leading to the shop to the left.
I still have a nice amount of work to do. Still have to finish out the wall's and the wiring. Then when that's done painting and installing more lighting and organizing everything.
I love it though so far, especially since the winter cold finally has come. It will get up to 85 degree's in the shop with the wood stove rolling good...even when it's in the 30's outside. It's all insulated but theres some small area's to fill in still.
The wood stove has been great. Last winter it didn't really do to much with no insulation. The shop is still going to be freezing but I can live with that. Now that I have an area to keep warm, it won't be too bad working in the shop on and off.

Awesome shop man. I like your LS theme you got rockin. I don't own anything LS... but it sure seems like adding an LS motor to anything makes it just a little better...

Office is coming along nicely, I have some more pictures to put up soon. I love having heat in here, been finally dipping into the 30's here in Tennessee but it stay's super warm in here. I actually had it up to 90 in here by accident lol, had to open the shop doors to cool off the office haha. Thanks guys!

Very nice, notice you seem to be a honda guy. Check out my build thread in Sig. (dc2 k20z1 gt35r). Although not as clean as yours, but it gets it!
With that much space, you sure look like you need another hand in there! Could be a little quiet sometimes. Haha. Great looking shop, at your age, you seem to be doing just fine, looks like tons of fun! Maybe a built in Bedroom/Kitchen/Bath to the place, and you would be set for an ideal dream garage!

Wow, amazing journey with your garage! I like the abutment wall style foundation as long as you dont retain any water from it. That place looks amazingly strong, and the dyed concrete is definitely the way to go if its to be used as a mechanics garage- Awesome work! Good Luck

I see on your first post you had a green s-15 Gold Volk te37's? Know if it came from MS? My friend owned/sold one and I drove it alot. The white R33 looks familiar too..

Man your story and your shop are just amazing. This really inspired me and made me want to go do all this my self im only 16 so I know I cant do alot but reading your story I lets me know i can do it. And whats cool your only a couple mins away im in lavergne TN but thanks for the story and everything now imma go chase my dream

Haha, well it's still needing to be organized badly. It became the "I don't have anywhere to put this **** so I'm gonna stick it in the rack" rack...haha. I have an intern now who's new job is to organize the mess so it will be done eventually

I wish I could! I actually just moved into a apartment 15 minutes from the shop. I needed to separate my business and personal life...living at work ***** haha. Thanks! Yeah that is an awesome event..we had a blast!
Thank you! With the large back retaining wall we put a french drain in around the wall to take care of that
No issues with water except from a crack in the wall after the building settling. I get a bit of water during heavy downpours. I just need to dig up behind the wall and take care of it when I get some time.Thanks!
My buddy alex own's the Silvia...not sure where he bought it from. I know it was resprayed since they never came in green...so it could be the your friend's old one. The R33 is my local friend/customer casey's.

This is me for anyone who was ever curious haha. We were relieving some stress and shooting some clay targets that day behind the shop.
Me grinding and cutting in a customers Type-R engine bay. I like this picture because you can see the hot metal shard bouncing off of my safety glasses. Safety first!
So far the asphalt millings driveway is holding up..sort of. Still very easy to dig ruts so we are always fixing spots whenever tires dig in. At least it looks a ton better though..and its still better than gravel.

I must say that young people get a lot of bad press these days, and to see someone your age with such a level head and excellent work ethic is fantastic!
I wanted to start my own place over here, but decided to go to university and study a motorsport powertrain engineering degree, now i'm stuck crunching data.... oh the envy! haha
Keep up the good work, i'm looking forward to seeing your company grow through your future posts
