New to the forum here and thought I would share the tractor barn that I built last summer with recycled steel pallet racks as the roof trusses.
building is ~17'deep x 33' long front posts are 6x6x12' and back are 6x6x8' hemlock.
Siding is all 1x12" pine boards with battens.
Racking is all notched into the posts and secured with timber screws and top plates.
Perlins are all 4x4 hemlock timber screwed to the steel.
The steel is all welded together to the front and back braces the entire roofing system was very rigid.
I will post a bunch of pictures of the build.

That's some pretty cool re-purposing of something I never would have thought of using. I'll look forward to more details & photos!

Lots of pictures
Foundation Slab, went with a ~ 6" haunched slab, my property up by the road is all gravel so makes a great base.

Building up the trusses, Marked out the slab for my posts and laid the steel on top to mark the timbers to cut.
Once I had them all built I made up a small angled frame so I could lift them flat into position with my forks.
Post are bolted to the slab with anchors and Strongtie post bases.

Once I had each bent up and plumb I attached a frame to both the top and bottom to make a complete boxed roof frame. I tech screwed everything together to aid the install then went back and welded all the connections. The frame was incredibly rigid without any bracing or siding. The nice part was the trusses made up great staging for doing the roof just put some planks in the lower frame to stand on.

Used board and batten to close in 3 sides.
I might make some doors for it this year or do some type of roll up canvas for each bay. Let me know if you have any ideas.
Put down 30 yards of crusher dust around the building for parking.

Drawings for those interested.
Not liable for anyone building this, they have not been engineered to a specific snow or wind load.

Very interesting build. I definitely would not have thought of using pallet racking for that!

How do you like your Kioti? I've had a NX for 3-4 years now and I've been pleased, except when I had to get some parts.

I have had really good luck with it, just wish sometimes it was bigger. We have an excellent dealer here in the central part of the state so that helps with parts. but truthfully I haven't needed any. I usually buy all my OEM Maintenance filters and parts on ebay.

Red pickup.
Red tractor.
Red bush hog.
Red back hoe.
Green mower.

What model of John Deere?

Oh... great project.

I've gotta add a lean-to next to my shed. My current 10x20 canopy is near the end of its life. You look pretty good at 'puter drawin'. Care to do mine?

The green tractor is my trusty old John Deere 430.
Here it is in its summer and winter livery!

The use of pallet racking reminds me of an interesting tax desput localey.

A company built a huge, fully automated, warehouse and then enclosed it with sheet steel.

When the county came to tax it as a building the complained that it was more a weather proofed "machine" and not subject to any real estate tax.

After a visit to the site by the judge he ruled in favor of the co.

I'm surprised the company won. Most rulings favor higher taxes.

Looking real nice. Winter n Summer.

I have two 318s. One has the flyball governor problem on the P218 and the other was parts/fixer-up/sell.

Well, in my area, the price for these JDs has totally crashed. What was $2000 two years ago is now $800. I may re-power mine. Or buy a new Scag zero-turn residential. I was looking for a used commercial Scag but my finance department (i.e. wife) is tired of me buying somebody's problems.

I guess you know about this guy and JDs.

Anyone have any pictures of open shed doors. Want to try and find a good way to close this building in thinking rolling doors that can all roll into one bay. Just have tarps across the front now but it is a real pain when you want to get anything out.

It is sitting the correct direction so the prevailing wind comes in from the back so I get some snow and lots of leaves in it. On the back I am actually adding a extension to hold my boat and fire wood so the steel will be well under cover.

Well Just finished up the addition to the back of the tractor shed this weekend. I added a full lean-to on the back for additional under cover storage. Cool thing was that I was able to easily set the precast posts by hanging them from the external framing. I left them 4 in off the bottom of the hole then filled with concrete up to the bottom of the precast post. once the crete set up I just back filled the hole. The roof extension is 8ft out and gives me plenty of headroom at the short side about 7ft.
