Tractor Supply Co: any good?

I finally have one being built several miles away. Can you describe what the place is like? I see a lot of Chinese type tools on their website, but I'm wondering if they have anything else of interest and/or not on their website.

I am VERY anxious to check out their compressors, since they seem to have IR stuff.

We have one about 70 miles away. They have stuff kind of like Northern Tool.

I just made the drive yesterday to buy a Hobart Handler 187 since they had an excellent price on it.

It's a pretty neat place. Fasteners are relatively cheap compared to the big boxes.

They swap out C25 shielding gas tanks for your MIG welder cheaper than almost anyone around here.

They have consumables for most of the Miller/Hobart lineup and I think some of that evil red company's stuff, too.

Excellent place to shop for chain, large pulleys, pneumatic tires, casters for workbenches...

And they also have feed and a lot of tack/equipment for that horse you probably don't own.

Go on over. It's worth the drive... just be prepared to wander around for and hour the first time you go in there.

They also sell their 'FARMHAND' brand compressors (green) for a lot less than the IR stuff they carry. Strangely enough, it looks just like the Campbell_Haus. one on the other side of it (yellow).

Yes there is a lot of chinese **** in there, but when you are in a pinch its a great store to have around. They do sell some good stuff too.

TRACTOR SUPPLY IS A VERY BAD PLACE FOR ME TO GO TOO..............LOL

I always spend money there lots of it as said above great fastener selection
welding supplies are great , and lots of name brand products.

plan about a 1hr to wander around you will need it ...lol

I have one about 45 minutes from me and I visit it a few times a year.

I get all my blasting media from them. I buy the 50lb containers of aluminum oxide and glass bead. The price is good and the main thing is I don't get hit on shipping for the media if I order it from another place. My 20lb pressurized sandblaster also came from them.

Thier Farmhand air tools appear to be made by different manufactures depending on the tool. I have a Farmhand air shear which looks like an IR with green anodizing. Works very well and has never given me problems yet. I don't have it but the Farmhand 3" cut off appears to be a rebadged CH.

They do stock a lot of oil and other basic maintance stuff. They also have coveralls, jeans, jackets, and some other clothes.

I never really critized thier tools much, I normally only stock up on blasting supplies, but I wasn't overly impressed with the Vice`Grip knock offs they had. The few pairs I played with in the store seemed to have weak springs and didn't have that positive 'snap' as you clamped them down. It may have only been the batch I saw but I didn'y think they were worth it.

It's an alright place for some things. As said, the majority of their tools aren't great, but there is a lot of good stuff and some very good deals.

Mine has had some pretty sweet deals on basic tools. I bought a great set of magnetic trays for $15, a decent set of small to pretty large pump pliers for $20.

In the spring they have peeps and ducklings...if you have kids, and even if you don't, they are neat to go watch.

Grade 5,grade8, course and fine, and some times metric by the pound. I want to say grade8 is 3.69lbs at my local store. Lots of farm stuff, and real nice that they are open until 8pm, and weekends unlike my real tractor shop. It makes it real nice when I needa ujoint, or pto shaft.

There is one here, lots of useful stuff as others have said.

They have a good selection of oddball hardware....pins, clips, bushings, springs, etc. Also air and hydraulic hose, cable, chain, and fluids.

For tools, the Clarke brand they sell seems to be identical to HF. I bought a Farmhand wirefeed welder that is a rebadged CH, but they have Hobarts too.

They always seem to have lots of IR compressors.

The Clarke tools are pretty common in the UK. They seem a step above HF to me. The Clarke stuff I've bought has been abused and won't die. Maybe it was a good deal and maybe I'm just lucky.

Tools, parts, farm implements, feed, vet supplies, and clothes all in one store. I can do a lot of my shopping there.

There's a TS about 5 min. from my work. I go over there at lunch and walk around just to get away for a little while.They also have a good selection of work clothes. Carhart, etc.

I'm in a similar situation. I just had one open (thanksgiving) less than 10 minutes from my house. I drive by it all the time but haven't had a chance to go in yet. Looks like I need to make a trip there next friday (half day of work and nothing to do).

Good to know, I had not noticed that in the store, I will remember that when I get my blast cabinet.

Excellent quality clothes, pricey, but I buy stuff on sale. Have bought a number of shirts and jeans from them, real heavy, good quality stuff.

By the way I got a quote from First Choice Automotive (Flemington) for an IR rotary screw compressor, 5HP, 80 gal tank ~$4K. A lot of coin for a compressor I know but pretty good for a rotary screw design I thought...

Great store, I wish I had one closer. There used to be one outside Effingham I used to go to when I was visted the inlaws but that has closed. Kinda like a Blains Farm and Fleet or a Rural King if your familiar with those kind of stores.

It's going in near the intersection of Route 206 and Route 38 in Mt. Holly.

TSC has a shop here in town, but we're a rural area with lots of farms around. We buy our horse feed and some other odds and ends there. Avoid their hose clamps, Cheap Chinese **** that fold over on themselves if you even try to tighten them the slightest bit.

Good for various farm supplies... when we were refinishing our barn we bought lots of stuff there. Everything the other guys have said about it is true... a fun store to wander around in

I like TSC. I have a larger collection of nuts and bolts than anyone I have ever known but still run out of some sizes. The last two trips to TSC got me 30 pounds of more nuts and bolts each time! TSC is 60 mies away so I stock up.

I saw that, but ended up going and buying 4 hockey pucks for $2/ea. and bought a 3/8" anchor bolt kit that came with the drill bit for about $8-$10 at Lowe's. I added some 1/8" shims I had laying around from my telecom days. I did buy the CH tank drain kit from there though.

One of the home box stores (Menards) was advertising wood pellets on sale and I was running low so I stopped at TSC and asked the store manager if he would match the advertisement and without blinking he said yes! So I now have another source for home heating supplies.

They are ok stores We have two of them within about 20mins from me. Sort of like a northern tool and a Feed store combined. I used to buy stuff for my 9n tractor from them.

I have a relatively new (year and a half old) TSC store about a half mile away. It is handy for the items already described. Use to have to drive 25 to 35 miles to one before. Parts and lubricants for the tractor and backhoe, welding supplies, bird feed, fasteners and even my IR compressor were obtained there.

We have lots of them within a 1/2 hour drive from me. Their hand tools aren't the best but everything else they sell seems good.

Another thing they sell is stall mats, which I think would make good anti-fatigue mats.
