I have a early 70 Duetz 3006 that I use for all my bigger work, plowing, bush hogging, discing, etc.
I did just pick up a Kubota BX1860 to use for mowing mainly. I have 5 acres and all but about an acre is open grass, other than the gardens, orchard, & vinyard. It sure makes short work out of keeping everything mowed and looking good. It's also extremly fuel effcient as well.

The short answer to the original question is that I use an IH 574 diesel for mowing and odd jobs around the barn and pasture. The longer answer is that I have been an IH (now CaseIH) dealer for over 35 years, also selling Woods, Cub Cadet, Bush Hog, Rhino, etc. Forums such as this can be a great resourse; I would be glad to be a part of that pool of knowledge.

I am an old retired engineer and tinkerer so I enjoy making my own equipment from pieces-parts. It takes a long time but for me it is fun. I am currently building a snow pusher out of some old odds and ends I have around. The biggest part is an old transaxle from a Case 3016. Any idear on how to hook up a steam engine to one of them thar hydoholic pumpers?

We have only had about an inch of snow so far. Last year was a PITA though. I only have a small place out in that desert west of the bay with a 1200 sq ft driveway so it does not take much. I am not sure but I think I saw a cow last week about a mile west of here down in the dry wash. She was probably lost.

My International 235. 3 cyl diesel, only 2wd though. 5 ft 3 point finish mower, rear blade, and in the winter it pushes a 54" plow (fitted from an old Case) and clears our driveway plus about 700 feet of road (dead end dirt road considered private, so the county won't plow it). Got a good work out last year plowing, hasn't been used since I put the plow on over 2 months ago.

Bonus, fits in a truck. Barely. Wouldn't suggest doing it with a 1/2 ton.

Used to just borrow one from work when I needed to stack the banks higher.

I use a Ferris zero turn to mow. It mows in 1/3 the time of my previous Cub Cadet 54 inch mower and uses about a third of the gas. For heavy lifting and snowplowing, I have a used diesel Bobcat that I bought almost 20 years ago. It has a bucket and pallet forks, so I tend to put stuff on pallets.

I have one of those Japanese "gray market" tractors, an Iseki (made by Bolens, I believe) TS1610 diesel from the early to mid 80's. It's 2WD with a front end loader, post hole digger and a tiller. Although it has ZERO bell or whistles, it is of fairly decent quality and gets the job done (smaller type jobs, that is!).

Here is my 1990 John Deere 420 20 HP garden tractor, it has 1100 hours on it i have a 62" mower deck, a 47" two stage snow blower and a 54" blade. i move my friend Richard's boat in and out of the garage and move snow in the winter so it should last forever.

CW, which model is the 40 hp, is it a 4006 or a 4506? My granddad had a 4006, we used it for most all his farm work. My dad had my 3006 from about 71 until I got it in 2007. They are great tractors.

all right a tractor thread. learn to drive on a ford 4000 tractor. wore out a couple of fords I had a couple of 8ns and a 9 ford but after talking to serveral ranches around here that use mahindras I went and bought this one and it gets worked hard. I'm clearing 10 acres with it right now.

Sure is right, once you have a tractor, you can't live without it.

I just got rid of my 7500 lb Gehl 6635 skid loader... it was nice to have a 2400lb operating cap but way too big for our clay soil, sunk into anything anytime. Even with the WIDE turf tires you couldn't drive it on the lawn.

Picked up an inexpensive Kubota 3650 GST 4wd for winter, it's got 4100 hours on it but still runs strong and all the pins/etc. are tight, and it's in very reasonable condition considering the age. I really like the gear-shift transmissions, to me they're a bit more versatile than the hydrostatics and great for putting power to the ground.

Once summer hits, I'm going to pick up about the same-size or slightly larger Kubota in a newer model (<400 hours), something around 40-50hp, with a hard cab and higher lift capacity. The new Cub/Yanmar EX450 looks nice and has a good price point IMO, but the lack of a factory hard cab is a deal killer after spending a couple times clearing drifts already this year in the winds we've been getting.

Going to add a 3-point backhoe... I know people are obsessed with the subframe mounts, but they're much more money for very close to the same inconveniences... when I have a big job it's far easier to rent the mini-ex which does a far better job.

Might keep the L3650 to have around, or replace it with a smaller BX for mowing... those BX's sure are cute and have a ton of versatility for their size. I mow with a Deere D130 right now and could not be any less impressed.

I am rebuilding this EXACT mower. The 318/420/430 were tanks. My wife asked why we need another lawnmower (we have a Cub GTX1045) and I had to explain the difference between a lawnmower and a garden tractor.

CW, which model is the 40 hp, is it a 4006 or a 4506? My granddad had a 4006, we used it for most all his farm work. My dad had my 3006 from about 71 until I got it in 2007. They are great tractors.

It is a 4006.

'10 Kubota B-2920 with loader, 60" MMM, box blade, 5' brush hog, and 5' rear blade. Getting ready to build a dethatcher with plans downloaded from a tractor site.

Also have 1968 Allis Chalmers B-210 with a 48" mower. Retired from the old tractor pulling circuit. Mowed with for years - restoration project is upcoming . Engine already done, mower deck refurbed, mainly just need paint and original decals.

Had this one for a couple years but it was literally too big to do yard work and small acreage stuff. Hence the lil JD. Hated getting rid of it. I grew up on old 3010, 3020, 4010, and 4020s. Both syncro shift and power shifts. Good times Syncro was a jig saw puzzle from hell some days
This one.... 1966 JD 4010. I installed the Koyker loader with 7' bucket on it, after a new paintjob to get rid of that baby chit yellow it had on it. Talk about a fun project!!!! Built the mounts myself and plumbed it in too. Had to get rid of the factory 3-rib front tires tho when the loader went on.... never seen tires "squish" like those did with a bucket of dirt!!! LOL

Still have a soft spot for the old school Deere's.

Syncro was a jig saw puzzle from hell some days

I bale hay for someone about once a year and they have a 4010 with syncro shift. I stare at that shifter for quite a while every time I sit down on it trying to remember what steps I need to take to get it in the correct gear. I'd like to know who the guy was that came up with that idea. Talk about a big brain!

I had a 4020 with powershift prior to owning my 6400. That was a great machine, at least until it spun a bearing and locked up the engine.

I use several tractors that all vary in size and horsepower. Of course just being a trac tor nut is one reason I own so many, but also I grow organic crops mostly and have to maintain several properties. Sometimes I need a large machine to lift heavy trees or move dirt, gravel, wood chips, and manure.

My first tractor was a John Deere, but I ended up buying several International Harvester tractors. For heavy tillage jobs, I use the diesel powered tractors, but I still enjoy using the old gassers too. I also own Grasshopper and Exmark Zero turns, but they are just for mowing grass where I can't use a large tractor.

I've also got some of the old Sears garden tractors from the 1970's that were made by Roper. Have lots of implements for them. I just purchased a 1954 John Deere Model 70 (two cylinder aka poppin johnny). It's my first two cylinder JD.

My largest tractors are International Harvesters---4366 and 4586. I like some of the new cab tractors on the market, but prefer the older stuff. Used to work at a Case farm equipment dealership.

For mowing duties, I have a 48" Bad Boy zero turn. For everything else, I use my small but mighty 310 Bobcat.

I have a 42" bucket, a small set of forks, a snow plow, and I built a reese type hitch for it.
If that's not enough, I have borrowed a 420E Cat backhoe from work.

I have a John Deere 240 skid steer I used quite a bit last summer doing some landscaping in the back yard. It's up home for the winter for dad to play with.

draglink - that picture brings back memories. Dad used to have an Allis Chalmers CA very similar to yours. I can't even count how many hours I spent on that thing. How is yours for starting? I remember that one we had had such high compression that 6 volt starter would have a helluva time turning the engine. I think I probably cranked it over more than anything.

rvr6000--Mine has been converted to 12 volt...just barely pull the rod and she starts instantly no matter what! I love my old tractor-- I installed a stereo in a water proof enclosure and water proof speakers. I pack a cooler and go visiting when the weather is nice

2010 MF 1528. No mower however I have a smaller Deere for that. This is mostly used for snow removal, dug the 32 post holes for the garage in my album, hauling logs and general sitework on our 5-1/2 acres that we intend to build on this spring/summer. It has been a great machine.

Only one I still have is the 400. The H I completely restored and put a 2 way mounted plow on it. Wish I didn't sell that one. The A was a 1939 and I was glad to get rid of it.
