Does any manufacturer make a smaller version of the track tractors? I'd love to have one but not for 3-400K and smaller would be very versatile. Thanks, JP

57 Ford 800 with an Allied loader, Trigg chains and 6' blade. Have a snow blower for the winter, a brush hog and a post hole auger. It has served me well for the past 30 years.

Always wanted a compact tractor, found this on Craigslist with .5 hours on it, lady bought it before the deal for her property went through, something happened and the deal fell apart. The dealer was trying to low ball her to take it back, so to "spite" them I was able to talk her into a good price. Also found craigslist deals on the mower deck that wasn't used and a tiller that wasn't used. Have the entire package, basically new for what just a base tractor would cost with no loader. Wish I would've got one sooner. Before this had old riding lawn mowers and my old case tractor that I use for my "garden"

Making mine feel tiny here... 1974 Massey Ferguson. She's a work in progress, I have a fully restored mower deck on, and a custom built 48" snow plow. For the winter, there is a custom made 225lb solid lead filled weight box on the back. In the works is the original snowblower that is close to being restored, and a single bottom plow and sleeve hitch.

Howsabout some advice? :)

I needs me an old garden tractor; Finally convinced the wife after she realized I spent a full 6 hours mowing friday (between our yard, the hamlet's unmaintained RoW/ditch, and the pensioner's house next door) - works out to ~4acres... With an old 3.5hp b&s - human propelled...

There's 3 ~32" gates to navigate, need to be able to make it a bagging unit come fall (total of 22 big (30'+) trees on/around the property) and given there's 600'+ of sidewalk and 2 double driveways - come winter a blade/pto-broom is gonna be needed...

Budgets ugly, with baby coming in a month, but... Finding something older that can be fixed up/upgraded over time seems feasable... I've seen a bunch of old craftsman tractors up, but virtually every one has had the 42/48" deck, and I've yet to see an older one with bagging capability or a blade mount or anything other than just the deck and trailer... Am I just SOL or is there something I should be looking for?

back on my grandparents farm we used a pull behind leaf shredder/bagger. ran off its own 4 stroke engine.

also ive seen a lot with plows. i sold this old one to a buddy of mine, took the plow off another non running one.

I'd look for a good used John Deere with a bagger system. But for picking up leaves from 30+ trees, I'd get a walk behind blower and get them all over into one pile. Bagging leaves from 30+ trees takes quite a bit of time. I end up with a lot of leaves in my yard, but I mow them up and let them lay if fine enough or if there is a great abundance from mine and the neighbors, the leaves get ground up and mowed towards the road. The cars going by will carry them down to the side ditch or the field across the road. No better nutrient addition to the lawn than ground up leaves.

They're going to have to get bagged, unless someone knows a way to get poplar leaves to actually compost, Last time I tried they were still very leafy after 5yrs, no possible way to leave that much on the lawn... So they'll end up getting bagged/hauled off one way or another...

Forgot about those tow behind leaf suckers though, that makes that part easier :) That sounds like a more reasonable DIY project than converting something

Bolens are virtually unobtanium in these parts it'd seem... Don't believe there was a dealer so the few around are 'imports'.

I have a smaller lot but a lot of trees also. I use a chipper shredder to dispose of the majority of the leaves and use my mulching mower several times for the rest. Oak leaves also take a long time to break down. The chipper shredder I use has a chute that lowers down to one side and all I have to do is rake the leaves into it. One could also pour the leaves from a tow behind unit into the top hopper.

The fine mulch the chipper shredder produces holds moisture well, reduces volume, and composts fairly quickly.

Try not to use chemical pest control agents on your lawn if possible. The insect activity helps to break down the thatch and leaves.

Just purchased this! Only 10,000 made, was the first "garden tractor" case sold and was only sold for one year (1965). Can't wait to get started on the complete restoration!

There is one of those around the corner from me just sitting in the guys yard. I don't know whether he's trying to sell it or not. He just mows around it and the grass is about a foot tall or so where it is sitting. You don't see too many around any more.

I just put in an order yesterday for a John Deere X530 garden tractor. The new house in SC has about 1.5 acres to mow, so my current mower wasn't going to cut the mustard!

Got any better pictures of the New Hollands? My parents have a 3010S and it sure would be nice to have a loader on it sometimes.

JD 2320 62" belly mower and a 48" king kutter tiller. We have 3 acres at home and tree rows to till. We also have a gravel driveway so that needs to be tended to. Have a total of 26 hours on it.
