Traded for Mini Lathe

Today, I traded for Mini Lathe (value on my part about $25).

I had an older 5,000 watt generator that I had gotten for free a while back and it needed about $20-$25 in parts (carburetor). So, I had fixed it and it was sitting. I didn't need the generator, as I have a larger one and this one was fixed for a trade tool.

Co-worker needed the generator to part it out for repairs that he was doing around the house and he knew that I wanted a mini-lathe. So, the trade was made. He had already replaced the speed controller. He also has to give up some additional tooling. It works and fits my needs.

Also, I need to find a Round 3-Spoke Hand Wheel, as this one is broken.

Your thoughts? Does any one know the brand? Any suggestions?

I can’t say for certainty but I would guess it could be one of a couple dozen brands all from the same factory.

I had one for awhile.

Yes it’s fine for what it is. Just remember it’s a MINI lathe. You need to go slow as it has its limitations.

I second the opinion on Hobby Machinst. Great bunch of guys over there.

You have a lathe, you can make a new hand wheel. I've got a 9x20 and didn't like the small wheel on the cross slide. I too a piece of 1x4 flat bar and turned a 3 1/2 inch hand wheel from it. A piece of 3/4 inch cold roll and a bit of turning made a handle.

I believe the blue version is a Homier Speedway lathe (I have one). They are all mostly interchangeable. While they do have limitations, you can learn a lot with them. I'll second LMS for parts etc.

I went over the lathe and found that it only had forward with the change. Found the correct switch and added the switch to the bottom (the best place for clearance) and it now has forward and reverse. Also, removed the black tab that sticking up before it was reassembled.
