Just wondering, am I the only one that trades labor or parts for beer??

I have a PS2 I don't use so I posted it on a local web board, trade for a case of beer and most of the folks on there were all confused.

I've done plenty of welding jobs, tune ups, etc for beer, steak supper, etc. No I'm not an alcoholic

Have no idea. I got it, played it for about 30 mins, realized it was boring and a huge waste of my time and it's been collecting dust.

Beer is one of the more normal things I've been paid with. Got paid with socks one time. A buddy got paid in 'maters for some vet work. Very good 'maters:drool:

I'll work for beer, but it has to be good beer. Socks would be okay, but I'm a little particular about my socks. But no 'maters. Won't work for 'maters, no matter how good. You've got to draw the line somewhere.

I've been paid in beer before, but usually when I think I'm doing a job for free. I can't say as I've ever negotiated to be paid in beer...but those I do 'free' jobs for know that the way to a man's heart is through a case o' cold ones.

Bartering is older than most of us put together. I would trade for a service or goods anytime.

Seeing as how beer is one of the major food groups, I see no problem there at all

I went 3 summers without ever having to buy any Corona beer...just doing brakes on my neighbors cars.
He bought the parts, I did the work, and he bought the beverages...

....Oh, and I share my spoils!

Big Fan of the barter system!!! Big Fan!

There's a series of ads running at the moment here in Oz on the "beer economy".
Teaching grandad to use a computer: 1 beer
Showing him a dating website: 6 pack
Erasing the browsing history and cookies so he don't get caught out: 1 case

Or something along those lines. Classic.

Trading services for beer is how things get done sometimes, been on many a construction site where nothing gets done until cartons change hands, eg the crane driver WON'T bring your gear up to the level its needed until he see's his beer. It *****, thats what he's paid to do, but there you go. No, I wasn't driving the crane!:lol_hitti

I have paid for a catalytic converter with a 12-pack once.

Being that I have a shop with lift and lots of tools at my house, I frequently allow friends to host car repair/upgrade gatherings. It is S.O.P. that the person(s) getting work done on their car bring beer and order pizza, and the house keeps all un-drank beer. I have considered making a sign for the wall for "suggested beer donations" based on # of hours on the lift.

how about hair cuts haha. i redid a salon bathroom and the owner said if i finished in the two days i said it would take to do what she wanted i'd get free cuts for life. been 3 years now and im always welcome there. infact she is one of the largest and best advertisements i could have. word of mouth is so much better than ads.

but i have been paid in beer, whiskey, and the best of all gas. a family friend owed a shell station and paid me 50 bucks and 4 tanks of gas to paint the curbs, barriers, and some of the office. 4x33= 132 gallons of gas or nearly 400 bucks

I've done more than a few things for a case of beer. Very often on a few very good friends cars jobs are done for some beers, often some food to the garage, some hanging around to BS and help while doing the job, and knowing they are available when I need some help that they can offer. Not being selfish-It's knowing who friends really are. What goes around comes around. Some things are priceless.
If you want something I can give, I take cash too. :)

I once worked on new home construction with an electrician. If there were masons on the job with a loadall (long reach forklift) my boss would slip the loader driver a case of beer when we started the job. He would help us load stuff if we needed. ;)

I have done and have paid in food and beer. Got help with tiling my laundry room by two pizzas and a case of beer. Mostly services, hardly ever trade items for beer. Just my 2 cents.

I've never really priced anything out in beer. For me, that seems to be one of those things that you get when you set out to do something for free to begin with. You know - a friend that needs a hand with something. And it's best if they help you drink it when the job is done

I've paid in beer before. 2 years ago, the mad rush was on trying to get things done before my daughters graduation. I had a guy come and lay carpet in a couple of different rooms. The last one being the bathroom, two days before the party. He did it for cheap, and I tipped him.
Then the following week, I picked up a 12 pack of bottles, a stryofoam cooler and some ice. I dropped it off at his shop, his wife was even appreciative, it was the brand she liked, he drank anything.

It wasn't much but it was already cold and going to be on ice for about 4 hours before he got done for the weekend. I thought it would start his weekend out good.

I've done several jobs for a hand shake or conversation. I have had a few pay in beer as well. The one that irk me are the strangers you help stranded in front of an AutoZOne when they are closing.

I once helped a lady who drove until she had no belt. Luckily she pulled into the auto zone and asked an attendant for help. The guys there know me and asked if i could help her. So i help put a belt on her saturn something or another and shes in the car talking to her son saying how i'm taking to long and how my hands are dirty and i'll leave marks on her hood. At which point i said either her or her son hold the flash light or i'm walking. When i finish she said finally. At which point i laid it out on her and told her she was a ***** and explained to her son that with a little work and effort that he can turn out to be alot better person than his mother.

Generally I trade Labor for labor or for dinner but I suppose if I was working for the correct person I would trade stuff for Wild Turkey or Kahlua.

During our last hurricane a couple of friends ask if I have some extra plywood they could buy to cover their windows. Since I had purchased 80 used sheets of 1/2" a few years earlier, I told them yes I do. We were at that time within a 12 hour window of landfall and all of the box stores had no plywood. All I ask for was beer, you trade a case for all the plywood you want. Both friends delivered the beer and each took about 10 sheets. One friend told me it took 4 hours to find a store that had beer left to sell. That was the deal, because I wasn't getting out on those roads with all the traffic.

Also, about 20 years back I had a plumber that would work for a six pack. Called him several times ... cost 1 sixpack each service call.

Barter all the time. When my dad and I had a side business roofing houses, we traded a roof on another guy's house and a little cash and he gave us a new furnace. Needed a couple hours labor to move some gym equipment. Traded pizza and drinks(Non alcoholic) with a few high school boys for the labor.

Many times have helped friends fix their cars in exchange for dinner. Those are always more of friend helping a friend with the friend getting the help always buys dinner type deal.

My neighbor where I used to live built engines in his garage. Someone asked him to cut the rear end off a pickup truck and replace it with the rear of a Trans Am. He did all the work except the welding. My other neighbor was a better welder and did the job for two cases of beer and a bottle of Cognac.

A buddy of mine has a appliance business. When I need an appliance, he gets it for me and passes on his discount to me. He also sells me HVAC units at his cost as all he has to do is order over the phone and it's delivered to my building. He's saved me a fortune over the years. He likes Jack Daniels so just before he runs out of Jack, I pick him up another bottle and deliver it to his house.

Several times I have had a friend loan me a trailer. When I take it back, the lender gets a handshake and a case of Bud.
