Nice shop. What I am talking about is old garages, or new garages made to look old. What I don't care to see is tiled floored garages, big screens, with a homemade belly up to the bar, so we can sit and look at my new harley type garage.

Here's a pic of my new shop trying it's best to imitate an old barn.

Very nice chaingang!Really like the differing elevations.

We have a professional working cabinet and machine shop.....and have a killer garage. Its all repro 1815 Federal period which fools professional's that should know better.I frenched the garage into a bank which you basically can't see from the rd.Then parapet'ed the brick walls to conceal standing seam tin roof.5 member cornice with handmade rolling doors(3).Our family has been builders for well over a hundred years, heck its probably more like 200........anyway I sorta agree w/OP.The prices some people pay for floors seams a bit crazy?I do like the walls painted, especially brick.

Am somewhat of a dolt on the computer, pics forthcoming.

Thanks Guys,
I have to keep fighting the urge to stain it. I know it will weather in nicely for that old look, but it's killin' me in the mean time. Lots of landscaping and a retaining wall to build yet.
BWS, I believe we are going to need some pics of yours. Sounds really interesting.

Here is my NEW- Traditional looking garage. 50x30. Much cheeper to go with stick (looking like a garage) than it was to go steel. If you mean traditional as more of a garage look. ;)

Bucs, that's very similar to the one I put up this summer (28x48)! Mine will not have tiled floor, etc, but will be a working garage. (No offense to those who have tile, etc - to each their own.) However, I would like to add some "retro" touches: vintage metal signs, etc. Things that I can do fairly inexpensively. Anyone have suggestions for this type of thing?

I posted these pictures here a long time ago, but I'll post them again. These are plans for a carriage house from one of my dad's college architectural drafting textbooks; if I remember correctly the book has a copyright date of 1927.

I was looking for the traditional look and ended up with a barn/carriage house look. The structure is mostly a timber frame. Windows and doors were all reclaimed from buildings destined for the bulldozer. Framing and sheathing was mostly rough cut. All the 2x lumber is really 2" thick! The main beams are 8" x 18" x 18'. T&G floor upstairs and when you look up you just see those nice boards and beams. Still setting up the inside but it is functional finally! Floor is just sealed concrete but with radiant! I'll finally be enjoying that this winter. Need to get some inside pics.
