Apparently the retail chain has begun the process of discontinuing this product or in any case has returned and or cancelled orders for tens of thousands of square feet of this product. The company that manufactured the product came to us and offered to let us by tout the tiles at pennies on the dollar.
At first we were very interested….. Then we started to learn a couple of things about the tile.
1. Many, if not most of the tiles are actually made in China
2. One tile ways about 9.7 oz. Compared with our Coin tile which is over 1 pound for the same size piece
3. The square reinforcements from the underside show through to the top of the tile
4. We’ve noticed the tile has a tendency to crease at the edges especially if you need to pull them apart.
5. Four injection points are painfully obvious on the top of the tile.
6. These tiles are currently a closeout for the manufacturer. While they have the equipment to make more they would never again be available at these prices
7. The tiles only claim to hold 10,000 pounds which is half to 1/5th of what you will find from other tiles YET some websites are advertising them as being commercial quality!
While everyone has their own opinion, even at $1 a square foot (which is what we would have sold them for) we simply did not feel that our customers would be happy with them.
The name brand, which is contained in the name of the original thread, is actually a reputable brand that a large chain retail store has spent years establishing. Perhaps my biggest surprise is that they would allow websites not affiliated with them to continue to use their mark to sell a product that was made for them.
It is interesting that some websites have decided to sell this product and market it as a high quality made in the USA product. Since we herd from the horse’s mouth that most of it was made in China (especially the dark grey) we don’t know how that is right or even legal.
This puts us in a very difficult situation. While we don’t want to go around bad mouthing a product or the people who sell it we feel that consumers need to know what they are getting into BEFORE they get garage floor tiles. That’s part of why we ALWAYS offer free samples of garage tile before our customers purchase anything.
If anyone REALLY wants to see the tile before you buy it online, let me know and I will send you one (subject to availability as I did not order a ton). Most of you on the site are consumers, what would you say is the best way to handle a situation like this?
