I built these taillight housings about 3 years ago for a single axle tilt trailer I had at the time.
All the flat steels was 3/16" plate, the round was 2 1/2" pipe picked up for free from the local muffler shop.

I wanted something unique and somewhat indestructible, good looks were just a bonus. I'm really proud of them, and now that I've traded trailers I need to make another set.

Last one, another set built for a buddy. Basically the same design but not a triangle.

Nicely done, I'll have to remember this idea for the future. I like near indestructible tail lights on my trailers too. I made rebar cages for mine, but I like the looks of yours much better.

Looks great. Get real good at that and you'd have nice sideline business!!

Surely there's countless trailer owners who have scraped off those cheapie trailer lights that manufacturers have been putting on those trailers.

P.S. Only change I'd recommend is rounding off those sharp edges that have tendency to "reach out" and put big gash in leg while walking by!!

Honestly, I thought about that when I built those, and I have to admit I did ram my knee/shins into them in the darkness a few times but it wasn't as bad as a piece of angle iron or channel as most trailers have. Point noted however, maybe a piece of 1" pipe on the outside edge would be a nice touch. I'll have to put my thinking cap on!

I would add a heavy bar screen over the rear lights and make them LED. I have a friend that has a small tilt bed trailer and every time I borrow it I have to repair a light or wiring. I may just have still your design, and make it out of plate and see if he bust that one up.

Looks great! Armored lights are the only way to to go. I use a variation on every trailer I build. The boxed in ligts will out last the trailer. Again, nice job.
