Thought I would show my rack I use to carry 4-5 ATV's. I have a 16 ft. trailer and couldn't get all 4 ATV''s in the trailer. And I got tired of side loading and sliding bikes to the rear of the trailer. Thought about this for a couple months weighing out all my options, sell 16 ft. and buy larger, found out they were expensive. Thought about a major modification of the 16 ft. trailer but decided to build this rack. My wife ussually pulls with 4 ATV's, large tool box and generator with a Yukon. Its worked out real well with no problems. We get lots of questions and lookers wherever we go. Tell me what you think.

It looks like what you have gained is a few inches between the wheels.
And you have raised the load a good foot.
I would be afraid of it being top heavy and kind of “tipsy”

I would have thought of some kind of ramp setup on the trailer so the ATVs would kind of half sit on the tails.

But if it works and she is happy with the way it pulls who am I to criticize?

Very nice idea. I too have a similar situation with newer sleds being much wider then the old trailer. Thinking of some extensions as well.
Looks good!

Seriously? That wouldn't even be close to tipsy. A tall pickup is way worse than that for the center of gravity, and still nothing to worry about.

I worried about being top heavey too, truth is it's not in any way. I was concerned about my wife pulling it with me behind her puling the camper. I studied on this for some time and looked around for an alternative. The closet I found was for a rack that sets in a pick up bed and does the same thing but for 2 ATVs, cost $1500. I still working on a ramp desgin, concerned about weight of a 6 ft. angle iron ramp though. Thinking about having an aluinium(sp) made to cut down on wieght. I really like this rack too because its removalble pretty easy. I'm also thinking about boxing in some of the open areas below the rack and above the trailer bed for storage. We do a lot of 4 wheeling and need a generator at times also parts as well as other ATV stuff. Anyway this has certinaly worked out well for my family and what we do, I thought someone else might benifit from my experince. I'm also still working out how to hang a smoker on this thing to cook in at camp. No telling what this thing will look like after Im through.

The ramp look great but I must be missing something. I do not see any gains on the trailer storage capicity UNLESS the rack raises up and it makes the trailer into a double decker. If so I sure would like to see some loaded pictures. I too have a 16 foot trailer and own 4 ATV's. Allways a pain in the A$$ to load.

I want to see it loaded also. Looks like there was not a whole lot of extra room gained except over the fenders.

I guess if you only needed about 16" of width (8" on each side) that would fit the bill.

You could make some doors and have a lockable storage under the deck.

My thoughts exactly Red Green. And yes this is a double decker in a sense. For those of you who don't ride four wheelers as a family I can see how this biuld seems senseless. We really wanted a toy hauler but didn't have the 60 grand to buy one large enough to haul 4 ATVs. I got real tired of unhooking the camper from the truck to unload the 4th bike. So this was my way of easing my load and a lot less strain and stress when Im suppose to be relaxing and having fun. I'll get a picture probably after Christmas with the bikes loaded. I'm still working on an easier tie down method, I have extra tie downs for the the rear bikes just incase one breaks. This rack has been great but it will always be a work in progress.

Bushhog, you are in the say situation I was until the rack. Basically I built a frame and put a platform on top of my rails of the trailer. Additional storage will be gained between the floor of the trailer and the floor of the rack, about `6 inches if I remeber right. Let me know and I'll post more pictures, tell me what angle you would like to see. This sure has made my life easier.

I have the same issue. And to those of you that think the extra 16" of width doesn't make a difference...it makes all the difference in the world. I have two full size polaris ATV's. I can only fit two on a 16' car trailer because it isn't wide enough. If I put both wheelers side by side (tire to tire) 1/2 of the outer tire is hanging off the trailer. Not safe at all to tow like that. I was thinking of adding some sort of wing/platform hanging off the trailer for the tires, but then I run into the issue of the wheel wells. Very good solution. It would be quite easy to add a lockable storage area under the top deck.

Now I understand. I have a Yamaha Big bear 350, two BB 250's and a little Honda 80. It is a PITA to slide them sideways as I load and unload them, and yes my trailer is about 6 to 10 inches to narrow to fit them side by side. I see now how the rack helped. Any pics would be great. I can not add this to my trailer due to it having two foot sides covered with expanded metal. I also use my trailer to haul rolls of hay and many other things so I will just keep sliding them around. Good idea and use of your space.
