Hello everyone, since another one of my passions is model trains I was wondering if any of you are into trains and have a train room in your garage? If you have pics I would like to see, I don't care what scale, I personally am into O scale(Lionel). Once the garage is done I was thinking of a walled off room to have a layout, either in there or the basement. Thank you in advance.

I do too much work and make too much of a mess to have one in mine, but when I was a kid, my dad had a cool train set-up in the garage.

I'm not into them, but I actually saw the largest privately owned model train set in the US last week. At least that is what I was told. The set was 1500 sqft and is valued at $700k.

It was neat and built by the owner over the last 30 years.

In the bonus room above my garage I have my trains. Over 450 feet of ho scale track, hundreds of structures and more trains that my wife knows about. I also have many other trains in other scales.

O I love trains, yes I am a nerd.

Z scale, N scale, good old Lionel. But my favorite is my 7 1/4" live steam locomotive I built. If you want to see a bunch of nerds in action go to a live steam event. So much fun.

When I finish the cave portion of my garage, I will display my O and HO gauge trains on the wall along with my P-5 Pacific B&O steam locomotive headlight and other railroad related items.

My dad has a ton of HO and I'd love to have a setup. Probably wouldn't put it in the garage but I bet I could make room in the house... strangely I have too much space in the house and not enough garage.

If I ever get around to building my 'man cave garage' I plan to put my O gauge layout in there. I had thought about putting a pool table in it but I imagined a q ball flying off the pool table and smacking a quarter panel of a Chevelle or the gas tank of a bike. My main garage is there to make me $$$ and to get my personal projects done.

Plan on dusting the layout off a lot!
I have a basement man cave where I keep my HO layout.
I constantly run a dehumidifier and air filter and haven't had to dust in about a year.
Though I do have to maintain the air units.
Best to keep that stuff in a clean environment...and you can never have too much space in the garage!!!!

Been thinking about this as a use for my loft when the kids get older.

Hmm, timely topic as I will be moving into my new home next month and have some G scale locomotives to deal with... Camsore, what track is that? Looks like a great option for an elevated setup! :)

I've been wanting to to the car version of trains in the garage. I have a train going around the top of one bedroom, but thought it would be cool to have a slotcar track (or newer version of this) in the garage while people were hanging out.

my trains stay in the basement. I create way too much dust and **** in the garage. My garage is my workshop. I do have some old lanterns displayed out there, only because I dont have room in the basement for them. I am in the process of tearing down my current layout and rebuilding....I didnt realize how much train stuff I have.

I have a huge box of N scale, but that will have to wait a few more years. I dont have the garage since the divorce, and the shop I rent has too much activity. Never had trains in the garage, but saw someone mention this.

We had a blast with slots, I still have all the stuff, and a friend is going to set it up in his basement.

I would really like a set up, but have no motivation to build one. Would be nice to buy a house with one already in the basement.

Thank you guys for your input, photos, and videos. Trainman1385: That is a nice looking layout.

I have been into trains since my childhood, I'm 38 now and interests seem to be changing. I'm getting back more into trains than classic cars and trucks, which has been my main hobby for the last 20 years. My problem is that the cars/trucks cost so dang much money to restore/build/maintain. I just don't have that kind of money anymore, trains are still neat to me and don't cost as much to buy and enjoy right away. Eventually I want to build an O gauge layout.

It'd be ideal to have a train set up in the garage for those long cold winters with not much to do. A small set up to fit right over a pool table would be great.
