Trane heat pump problems

Hi y'all. I'm new at this but gonna give it a try. I have aTrane heat pump bought in 06. I have had alot of problems with this unit that they say is hard to stop. Three fan motors on a/c side, one new compressor and now the fan motor on the inside in the heat mode wont shut off. They charge a bunch to come out to my place just for the service call so I thought I might try to fix it myself with you all's help. I disconnected both thermostats and it still runs. A friend told me to disconnect the transformer. I did and it still runs. The only way I can get it to shut off is to shut the breaker off. I have read that it may be a relay. Can someone please help.

You may be able to do the job if you're comfortable with electronics and have a service/ maintenance manual, schematic, and parts list on the system. Usually there's a start capacitor on that fan. It's usually three caps in on can. IIRC, if one side shorts...that fan is always on. I'd take the shroud off and see if the cap is leaking.

If the indoor fan is running all of the time it's probably the fan relay. It is almost always (and I would bet always with newer ones) built into the main control board. So you would have to replace the whole thing. I feel you may be able to fix some of your problems, but you may need a service tech for other problems. If you feel you have been abused by your other tech I suggest looking for a new one with very good references.

Does it still heat your house when the thermostat calls for heat? Maybe double check your thermostat settings, there is a switch on the to make the fan run all the time. Should have two options, on or auto. It should be set to auto. Check the cheap and easy first and work towards expensive and hard. Since it seems like your having a lot of electrical problems you may want to look into a surge surpressor, many of them carry garrantys or warrantys that cover the equipment they protect.

My HVAC guy tells me Inside fan running all the time is an optional feature on new Trane and other units with DC fan motors. It runs at a very reduced speed. I have a friend that uses that feature and said it keeps the house warmer in the winter and has eliminated his wife needing to dust. Maybe yours is configured for that.

look for a control fuse inthe circuit board. probably an automotive style. if its blown your fan will continue to run....reconnect your transformer and replace fuse.
