Welcome to the Forum from Southwestern California.I am installing a transfer switch when I get into my main breaker panel. Some of my 20 amp workers have got to block wires hooked to them. If I’m going to use them with my transfer switch I’ll have to take the two black wires out and put one red wire and now I’m left with three black wires to the tire them all together.

When you install the transfer switch you take the black hot wire out of each breaker that you want to hook up to your generator and you put the red wire from the transfer switch in where the black wire was then you connect The black wire from the transfer switch to the black hot wire that was connected to the breaker with a twisty on a couple of my breakers. There are two black wires hooked to the 20 amp breakers if I take those loose and install the red hot wire from my transfer switch. I will be left with three black wires . Do I hook all three of them together with a twisty in order to make the right connection for my transfer switch.Welcome to the Forum from Southwestern California.
Black is not one of the "Sacred" colors, White and Green are. A Black wire can be extended with a Red, Purple or almost any color except White, Green, or Green with a Yellow Stripe. Orange and Violet colored conductors are often used in special cases.
