Transmission help.

Alright, Im new on here so here it goes. I have an 85 F350with a 460, C6 ******, and a limited slip dana rear end with 4:10 gears. I want to make into a good stock hauling truck, but the lack of overdrive has me topping out at 55. I would like to put a four speed manual in with a gear vendor overdrive or maybe even a four speed with a two speed rear end. What do y'all think? Can someone recommend a stout 4 speed?

I'd look at a 5 speed. The ZF came behind 460s so would be the easiest swap. I had an 86 F250 with the same combo (less the dana but still 4.10)) and it was no highway machine thats for sure.

x2 on the ZF 5 speed. .76 od I believe. Readily available. They made millions of them. My 95 460 on 4:10’s turns about 2100 @65 and 2500 @75mph. Peak torque @ about 2250.

X3, just swap a later year ZF 5-speed manual trans into your truck. They started using the ZF in 88 I believe. You will need one from a 460, as it has integral bellhousing; and the ZF was used behind the 300 inline 6 (same pattern as SBF V8), the 460 V8, and the 7.3 V8 diesel. All three are different bolt patterns.
