Picked up the big 2k transmission Jack from HF. I have never had a ****** jack before always just used floor jacks and/or brute strength to muscle them out. Now I have a 4l60e with a transfer case I need to drop so I figured I would buy the correct tool for the job.

While putting it together it has the sliding corner brackets to grab the pan. Doesn't it make more sense that these are mounted on the bottom instead of the top of the jack plate? Any thoughts on this? it just seems weird to have that wide plate to put the ****** on then to rest it on four bolt heads. There should be plenty of room except when tilted aggressively while lowered. Which I doubt will ever be an issue.

The other issue is strapping. I was going to grab some weldable etrack and make a better setup.

On many ****** jacks under many trannys the plate is only there to hold those corner brackets which are positioned to the corners of the pan or case. Fwiw I've dropped most trannys in my life with a normal floor jack and a square of 3/8 plywood. Don't over think them

Better take a look at the welds holding the uprights to the slotted bases.

Looks to me like they're just tacked. Well, more like "Glob welded" than "Tack welded", but you get the idea.. You put a load on them, and angle the jack...maybe the welds break.

I think they are ok. I will check them out though. They are attached to a stub so they rotate.

Yeah put them under, might have to cut or grind the screw if it sticks up higher.

Yeah I could also put a couple more washers on them they stick out just a little. The lower I can get the jack the less I have to get the truck in the air which is nice. The lift isn't in my garage yet so jacking the tahoe up 30 inches isn't the most fun endeavor.

Agree with me overthinking the ****** jack but that is what garage journal is for.

I have an indentical jack and hardly ever used those corner clamps. Had more success using blocks of wood on the table to level it to match the bottom of the gearbox, put the chain around and tighten it. For a lot of gearboxes, and most automatics, the flat table alone with the chain will do all you need.

Flipped the corners under added a washer but the bolt was still sticking out just a bit so i hit them with the 7" flap disc. I should have just ground the bolts off the jack but I was in a hurry and my block grinder is buried in the shed while i finish my new shop.

Worked great on the tahoe ****** and transfer case. I wouldnt have wanted to go smaller on jack size. It was really easy to tilt and move on the 2k.

Ive had my eye on that jack for a while, how do you like it? was it in stock or did you have to order it? thank you

It's good. Seems really solid. I haven't bled it or anything so it maybe even better but seems fine. I got it with the 20% coupon and had it shipped for $7. I don't have a HF close to pick one up.
