I have a piece of sheet aluminum that I use (it used to be a monitor stand for a laptop docking station 
). It bolts to my floor jack. I used to simply remove the jack pad on the jack, and stick a bolt through the hole to hold the sheet in place... but on my new jack, there was sufficient steel to drill & tap a couple of small holes to bolt the plate to the jack. Works great for my T56, ST-10, and 4L60E transmissions in my Camaros...

lol had to do it pictures pleaseSure, here's a couple pics. It's so simple, it's almost silly.
I needed a couple of pieces of aluminum once, so you'll notice that the plate's been cut a little on one side. But hey, it works. This is where the jack is sitting tonight... I used it last week to move the trans around during my 383 install... the 383 should be going back under my 94 Z28 this weekend.

That HF scissor type trans jack is terrific. I use it for all kinds of projects.
Yah, I've walked past that thing when it's been on sale for $49, thinking "I should get that"... But I never do. Then when I need to yank my trans (which happens fairly often with my race car), I just reach for this plate. Plate takes up a lot less room (which, if you look at the pic of my shop, you may be able to guess... it's packed with stuff already!).
I used a high post ****** jack when pulling once in a shop on a lift... man, that was nice. But those are expensive. I have a lift, but I still hit the floor and do the shuffle when I need to pull the trans completely out.

For home use, the HF stuff works fine, and is inexpensive; I use their trans jack to wrestle transmissions and axles, and use their tripod jackstand to support the back of the engine when doing trans or clutch work (I have a lift).
