I use bulkpart.com for all my stuff, but a "governor" will probably have to come out of a spare trans. Not normally a replacement part. bulk doesn't list one for a 200 - the only one on the whole site shows for a 250/350.

Does anyone know where I can order a govenor for a th200 transmission??

Why do you think it's bad?

Most trans shops would probably give you a good used one, they rarely go bad

Is the cover plastic or aluminum?

Early model TH200 had an aluminum cover, the small teflon sealing ring on the gov. shaft would cut a groove into the cover where it rides, always change alum. cover to plastic.

It is only a rod with 2 weights attatched that close off holes with check balls when the weights swing out, the gear can be replaced if worn. Blow down the hole in the shaft and hold the weights out, if it seals off the air flow it's ok

I took it to get a diagnostic test on the transmission and the the problem came up as the governor or the tv cable but I doubt it's the tv cable because the tv cable wouldnt just adjust itself on its own right? So It must b the governor, my transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd gear late...

What kind of 'diagnontic test' ?
There's no electronics on that year trans, the only diagnontic would be a road test and evaluation by someone who knows the function of that unit and has experience reparing them....

** ** / you're giving yourself a false dilema here by saying it must be A or B when there are other possibilities

i think your tv cable is out of adj, did anyone adjust it properly? its pulling to much cable out to soon. it dosn't take much to afect your shift points. no one has asked but is this a stock set up or is the cable going to a carburator in an older car

Yes this is a stock tv cable that goes to the carb.. It a th200 trans on a 77 impala. What made me think it was the governor instead of the tv cable is the fact that the car wasn't always shifting late..it's a 3 speed trans

so this is hook to a standard carburator or a throttle body injection carb

1977 Imapala would be a carb. I've never seen a 200 Metric in any year Impala/Caprice that came factory so I'd be certain to look into the tv cable adjustment. It may not work with a conventional older 4bbl or 2bbl carb if it was mated to a half-quad originally.

when you hook a tv cable to a standard carb. it has to be done just right. the cable has to mount to the throttle plate at the right spot so it pulls the cable the correct distance. there are adapters for this

He already mentioned that he saw ground metal in the pan when he removed it. That indicates a serious internal failure, all this fluff around the edges is a waste of time. You can put ten governors in it and adjust the cable a hundred times...if the trans is grinding up inside there's no point, the trans will still be bad. It's like giving medicine to a corpse.......

If the governor spring is out, you will have to trick it into shifting - give it some good throttle then lift and it will shift. It will bang the limiter if you give it steady throttle (causing it to shift). That is common in those trans's. If it is out, drop the pan and look for it, then put it back in.

Turbo-Hydramatic 200?

If you have over 50,000 miles on it, it needs a complete overhaul.

Those things were complete junk.
They should have come with a pin in them. Pull the pin, throw as far as you can before it blows up.

There's one in my garage, right now. Came out of my mother's '77 Nova. Died "right on schedule" at about 51,000 miles. Car now has a TH-350, which is an extremely common and sensible upgrade. The single downside is that first gear isn't as steep, so it might take a hint more throttle to accelerate from a stop.
