transmission spring tool

Has anyone used the kd tools universal spring compressor? I forgot my shops one at work and the back and forth with tools really take a toll on my side job productivity. Would i be better off getting a foot pedal compressor or is the kd tools one sufficient. I specialize in gm but generally can work on all transmissions if that will effect the kd decision. Any feedback is much appreciated .

Snap On makes one too,it is a must for the rear piston removal in the 700R4 and 4L60E transmissions.

Funny thing, i never thought to look for the snap on one just for the price. It looks like the kd tools but with more adapters. I do like the 25 a week purchase method and apparently its only around 50 dollars more give or take.

My dad has had one since early 80's and has used it on th-350 to a ford tractor selecto speed. He is not a pro wrench just a shade tree with a shop. It is actually in the mail right now coming my way for my 4l60e I'm building. Was cheaper to mail it and have next weekend to start work on it than drive up there.

You could make one similar to this one. I just put this in the vise and it works well.

I have a Snap-on® kit similar to the compressor in your picture. It has several extra adapters for compressing different styles of clutch pack springs.

I can't find it on the Snap-on® website. Their site ***** *** now, hard to navigate.

I haven't used it for many years and don't remember which transmissions I used it for. I do remember it worked ok.

I have one that i made with a all thread rod and 2 1"= 1/4 steel flat bars with holes drilled in the center of them. I used 2 deep sockets for spacers.

That's what we have at the shop works great for drums and some other shorter housings but unusable on a lot of 6speed applications. Have resorted to using jtools and an unused lift raised up as a makeshift press lol.

I guess it was a piece of angle iron actually.

Totally nothing fancy at all. I was going to order a nice one, but I got impatient and just made one with some scrap. I've since used it half a dozen times on 350s and 700r4s and haven't really seen a reason to get/make anything better.

That's pretty nice thinking there. Also just talked to my snap on rep, apparently all transmission stuff is discontinued. Weird Imo. To eBay and the scrap pile it is.
