I'm looking to get an IR garagemate 20 gallon vertical unit. Even though its no 80 gallon 2 phase, but its my first oiled compressor. My friend has a Toyota 4 runner, the box will fit laying down but will there cause any problems for the pump? If it has to be transported standing up, I'm going to get a HD truck.

You can transport it laying down, but make sure you let it sit upright for a few hours before powering up so any oil can return to the crank case.

That's assuming there's oil already in it. If it's dry, then no problem at all.

i transported a tall vertical one on its side about 30 miles each way to/from my work. Only issue was most of the oil drained out of the fill hole while in transport (not sure why i didn't see that coming)

I think you will be fine

It probably shipped without oil in the crankcase. Confirm that it's empty before putting it in the SUV and you'll be fine.

I have that same model compressor - mine came with no oil in the crankcase. No issue transporting it laying down.

Def. Make sure the oil is drained. Speaking from experience...
Good luck with your new compressor
