Been lurking a while and admiring everyones ideas, projects and garages. Time to throw mine in the pot. I started this building in 1981, I was chairman of the airport (KTHA) at the time and the city had own the old WW2 property for a couple of years,so to boost growth at the airport we started leasing ground to aircraft owners. I jumped on the change to have my own, fast forward, a tornado came thru and took the roof off my hanger and did a number on my plane, fixed the plane got a better hanger, build a one piece door that raised.
It did the job, fast forward again. Replaced the old wooden door with a metal door I made, worked the same but made it lighter and insulated with white alum. cover. So this year was the year to make it a nice place to work on my plane and projects. Attached are pictures of fixing the roof, painting the outside brown, painted the ceilding with 10 gals of white paint, sealing the crack where the footer sits on the 1940 concrete. I got the 3 ton heat pump working and it is nice working in the AC. So my wife and I cleaned out the hanger and I started pressure washing and making the floor ready for stain. Used DAWN to get up the oil that I had spilled over the last 35 years and what a BIG difference that soap made, soaped and pressured washed the spots twice letting it soak over night between times, it got the oil up and we could stain seal the floor. My hanger is 40x40 and it took around 14 gals to do two coats. As you can see in the pictures it turned out great, with my wife helping me I sure am proud of out this has turned out!!! We started 3 days ago putting up these metal shelfing and what a asswoop this project has been, talk about tedious, awkard and just a pain these shelfs were that and more. But after three days we gotter done and now ready to move back in. As we moved my stuff out we threw away around 2500 lbs of wood steel and metal things. So as I move back in I am sure another round of throwing stuff away is going to happen. Haven't used in a couple of years, time to get rid of it! I have enough projects that I wont miss what is gone.
