Tree House Project

So about 8 weeks ago I started this tree house project. I had cleaned up the tree back in May of this year, and finally poured concrete the last week of August. Exterior is almost buttoned up.

I was able to use up most of the old metal and wood I have been keeping around from previous projects (garages/shops), so my 8 year old has his first man cave.

Thanks guys, it's a total labor of love and has integrated most tools that I own. Especially the chainsaw and impact driver.

That is very cool. I am a big advocate for providing cool stuff like this to my kids. If I can obtain the things I dreamed about as a kid, I am going to try my best. When we bought our house about 2 years ago, the first thing I did was create a play room for my girls...

Your kid(s) will love their tree house for many many years. I always told my wife, the next house we buy has to have a huge tree in the back yard!

I love the fact that you've built around the tree, but supported the structure on its own. I've got a mammoth maple in my back yard, with a perfect 1 to 3 trunk split. Been eyeing it up for a tree house, but safely supporting it to the tree has stopped me from moving forward. Running support to the ground makes a lot of sense. What an awesome project :)

Cool playhouse, Roger! Yes, I built with the intent of it being solid for many years.

Good eye. We did build around it, and there are no connections between the house and tree at all. It was tricky to scribe the deck around the tree, and there is a tricky roof notch at the tree.

Fully challenged my carpentry skills!

Great job of building the tree house and creating a life time memory for your son.
My grown sons still remind me that I never built the tree house I said I would. :(

Good job! Do I spy actual lights inside the tree house?

My 8 year old diligently reminded me 4 days before school started that I had said the tree house would be started before school started. That was the day I dug and poured the concrete!

Great job! Give me some ideas for my sons! They are currently 2 and 7 months. I too never got the tree house I was promised, and have sworn ever since to make the best fort/ tree house I could for my boys when they are old enough!

I'm jealous and I do spot an issue. . . . we need more pics like the inside.

Those will be coming soon. I am going to completely finish the inside, not leave the stud walls exposed, but actually build it out. I just yesterday after work finished up the last of the windows. A plexiglass triangle at the tree notch. And, still have to build the door. Then she'll be all buttoned up for winter.

Wow, I would have gone nuts for a fort like that when I was a kid! I was constanly building forts with my friends! Great job

Thanks, I come from a similar history. I grew up in Maine.

I am happy to provide pics of any step of this project, or tips on how we built.

I (as well as others here on GJ) need pics of the inside of the tree house. :)

Stay tuned...it's not done yet. Meanwhile, here is one of the ceiling planks as I was installing them over the rafters.

I love the look of recycled wood and metal.

I am also working on a tree house for my kids. Here is a picture from a while ago.

To me that's what makes it not a tree house. Not that it isn't really nice, it is.

That is awesome! I'd love to see more recent pics of the progress.

Nice to meet someone else who has had the pleasure of building and scribing around a tree! It's a thrill that can only be understood by having done it. It was a bucket list item for me.

I have not made too much progress since picture. I have put the roof sheeting on. I am trying to work up the nerve to get up on the roof to put on shingles. I do have some older build pictures if there is an interest.
