Back in 2021 I purchased an old Tree Journeyman 325 cnc mill for $700.00.
It had the original Dynapth system 20 control on it and it would no longer boot up. Even though I'm quite familiar with the Dynapth control I wanted a newer control.
Fortunately There is a company called Parta & Smarts in Burlington, WI about 30 min away from me that specializes in servicing Dynapath controls. They purchased the old control computer and display unit from me for $500.00. I them sold the old DC servos, and Fanuc servo drive and drives for another $800 on Ebay.
I noticed the posts by member Slodat with his J425 retrofit and liked the basic interface layout.
After some research I decided to go with a Dynamotion Kfop PC based control and AASD AC 1.8KW servos. The spindle drive Is a single phase input 10hp generic drive purchased from Amazon. It receives a 0-10v speed signal from a CNC4PC C6 board mounted inside the VFD housing.
The computer is a micro size fan-less purchased from Amazon. Most of the other electric components were purchased from Automation Direct, Ebay, Amazon and CNC4PC.com.
Similar to the machine Slodat did I used an Asus touch screen monitor and ADC load meter.
I reused the original Tree MPG unit and also added Micro Quadrature encoder dials for the feedrate, rapid, and spindle override controls.
It runs great and with the bigger servos is capable of frighteningly fast movement. The only thing I really still want to work on is adding an encoder to the spindle so I can ridged tap. It would also be nice to change the pullies to the high speed 6000rpm version, currently it's ration is set for a max of 3500 rpm.
All in all I'm into this for about $2000.00 and everything runs on single phase 240V so I have no need for a phase converter.
