Trench drain suggestions

I am having a contractor lay road base in front of my shop, which is 12" above grade due to flood rules. He says he can lay it so the bottom of the V drains away from my house, but I am thinking placing an in ground open grated Trench drain is the best way to guarantee I won't drive through standing water getting into my shop.

From my research almost every plastic drain is suggested to have 4" of cement on the 3 sides, and I found some with cast grates to avoid breakage and rust of the galvanized options. This will slope to an open area, just curious if anyone has a suggestion of a good brand. I have seen images of pre-cast concrete troughs, but haven't found who sells them.

This will serve both downspouts and washing vehicles, and my heaviest vehicle is a 10k# RV.

Thanks for any tips

Allen

I recall from some reading there are "classes" of the trench drain built to handle various weights rolling over them. I don't recall for sure but I think you will have to go to the cast iron body plus cast iron grates for a 10k load.

Ues ACO makes a poly resin grain that has galvanized grates. It is heavy enough but grates are a little flimsy but hold up decently well. Their pieces can be flat bottom or a sloped bottom with numbered 3 foot pieces. We put 5 inches under and 4 on the outside.

Just be careful when setting. The pieces want to float on you and they NEED to be secured down or they will move up on you.

Otherwise cast in place cast iron grates with a heavier load rating. Either form outside and with wood on top secure the angle iron pieces that the grates will rest on/in. Put rigid insulation pieces on the inside for "trench".
