i have a tri-fold ramp for my snowmobile that i would like to make up a pulley system to hoist up to the ceiling in the shop. it is approx. 8' x 2' x 3" when folded and weighs about 50lbs.

i would like to know how to make a pulley system lift the ramp from flat on the ground to the ceiling and keep it as secure to the roof as possible. just looking for any ideas/drawings as i can get. i just want to keep it simple but sturdy/strong as i can so as to not have anything fall and damage the car or sled.

thanks for any info.

50lbs is not a lot of weight so this may not really apply.

The best "bang for the buck" rope is nylon diamond braid. However, the machines that make this stuff leave a hollow core. To save money, some rope manufacturers use a polyester inner. Polyester is a lot weaker than nylon and stretches more.

The best nylon ropes are "double braided". Literally a rope within a rope.

Something like this?

this set is ok for a ladder but with my ramp i am looking to lift at all four corners and not have to lift one end into a bracket like the one pictured. i am hoping to figure out using two or three pulleys and either cable or rope with carabiner style clamps at all four corners to hoist up the ramp evenly while it lays flat on the floor. thanks again for the input though.
