I received my set today. I have to admit I am very impressed for $20. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to pick up more of their stuff?

Only place I found is Sears. I wish some of the leftover stuff for Triangle there would go on clearance.

Is there any reason to get this in addition to craftsman sockets and a Snap On 1/4 ratchet?

Tools can be purchased directly from Triangle Tools. The 1/4" set was made in Taiwan, however, non of the literature, box etc. says anything about warranty. Retail for the 1/4" set is $99.

So far so good. Will play with them this coming week!

I have never heard of triangle tools, but I just ordered one. They look like good quality in the picture. Anyone tried their set yet?

I ordered a set last night using a $25 gift card. Used Sears card for the balance and received another $1 off. Sears emailed today and upgraded the shipping to 2 day, so maybe it will arrive soon.

I'll pass.

Precisely my point. I'd rather keep my $20.

I'm not trying to be rude, but ya exactly. I think I'll pass too. No one answered my question so I guess that there is no reason lol. My craftsman sockets are obviously nothing to write home about, but the 1/4 Snap On is brilliant. Triangle set is $26 with shipping, another 10 and I can get the T72 with student discount :rocker: I just picked up a F80 and FX80

Price is now $21.97. Raising prices on clearance items, Sears?!?

I'm guessing not everyone can afford a Snap-on set, even after a student discount. Plus, I don't remember the 1/4" Snap-on ratchets I've ever used having a swing arc of 2.5 degrees! I also think the "grip" feature on the sockets might be a good feature for when working with greasy hands.

Though, with Triangle you will be lacking an easy warranty exchange procedure, like you have with Craftsman. I don't even see deep-well or SAE sockets available for purchase.

In my case, I had a small set of Craftsman 1/4 drive sockets and not much else. In fact, I had been using a 3/8-1/4 adaptor with a 3/8 ratchet. I don't use the 1/4 drive stuff very often, about 2% of the time at most. I had been meaning to get a complete set of 1/4 drive stuff, extensions, ratchet, etc., universal, and this deal came along and is perfect for someone like me. I have already used some of it the past couple days, and it works very well. Seems well-built. Time will tell, of course, but for less than the cost of an expensive ratchet I won't use every day, a lot less perhaps, as in 19.97 I think it was, I have everything I need now. It is a lot nicer than the HF/etc. stuff I've seen and used on occasion.

It's a fantastic set for the money. Much nicer than any sub $50 set from Sears imho. I'm not sure why anyone is comparing it to SO when it costs $20...

YES. you're on a tool forum so, more tools is always the answer. :wtf:

Lets look at the set closer:

1. It comes in a nice steel box with a blow molded insert and foam lid lining.

2. It has 13 shallow six point sockets from 4mm to 14mm including 4.5 and 5.5mm. The sockets are nicely satin finished inside and out. Each socket has smooth detent scallops on the square drive end. The sockets also feature 5pairs of ridges around the outside of the socket. These ridges are great for finger spinning and prevent the socket from rolling.

3. The extensions and shaft of the spinner handle are ruled in MM so, you can use it to measue things. The extensions are also flat on two sides to facilitate using an open end wrench if necesary. The extensions also have the ridges around the female square drive that are excellent for finger spinning and prevent rolling.

4. The ratchet features a fine tooth 2.5 degree action with quick release.

5. Accessories: the set also includes a universal joint, sliding tee handle and a spinner handle that has a square drive at top of the handle for use with a ratchet or an extension.

Conclusion: The set is well made by a popular taiwan manufacturer. For $20, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in a 1/4 drive set. The only real downside would be the absence of a dealer network with warranty support but, I don't buy things for the warranty so, I'm ok with that.

You mentioned having a student discount in another post. With time and experience you'll learn that the best tool doesn't always come off a tool truck, and that there's more to life than weekly tool payments.

I just got my set in and it is absolutely amazing quality. Not even a single flaw on any of them at all. This proves without a doubt that anywhere can make excellent tools if they want to. There was a lot of thought put into the design of these tools and the quality is second to none. I really wish I would have caught that 3/8 set deal now.

Just got my set in... Great quality, everything was really nice and I love the satin finish.

The ratchet didn't feel good though... I feel like it needs some lube. Need to figure out how to open it to lube it.

Thanks to the OP for this amazing deal!

The included instructions tell you how.

I just took mine apart and lubed it and it sure does make a difference... wasn't a drop of lube in it. The internals are exactly like the wright round head ratchets which are virtually indestructible and never ever slip on you. Quite pleased with this ratchet.

Great find OP thanks!

I wasn't terribly impressed with the ratchet myself either. Not that it was bad, just not what I expected with that fine of teeth. I was impressed with the set overall however, especially for the price. I really didn't need it though, so idk what I'm going to end up doing with it.

I bought the 3/8" dr. set about a year ago when Sears was closing out both the 1/2" and 3/8" sets... I only wish I had jumped on a 1/2" at that time too. Now that the 1/4" are discounted I immediately grabbed 3 sets... I plan to use 2 as gifts. For $20 you can't go wrong... I believe the normal retail is at about $80/$90. I wouldn't try comparing them to Snap-on... but hell, at 20 bucks I can get a dozen Triangle sets for the price of one less extensive Snap-on set. The quality of the Triangle tools seems well above par... and the packaging is the best I've seen, bar none. If anyone has an extra 1/2" set they want to part with, let me know.

I, on the contrary, thought the packaging was rather gimmicky for what is otherwise a rather low to moderate quality item. I would compare with with the fancy packaging you see with Bose audio equipment or monster cables at best buy. Fancy expensive packaging for a cheap item, trying to make you believe you're buying something great.

Lol, you are buying something great :tard:

This is a top notch 1/4" drive set -- no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

EDIT: your biography says everything we need to know about you and why you don't like a Taiwanese tool set:

Now I'm waiting for Sears to close out the superman U-joint set. That spring feature is a really slick idea.

The ratchet is a dumb design...

Seems lube didn't do much for mine, so it's sitting in ATF now.

People might tell me I'm an idiot or wrong for doing this, but...

Ratchets that feel a little rough when new I'll take and put some sort of bit on it that can be easily chucked. Like a bigger torx or hex socket. Then I'll chuck it up in a drill press or cordless drill or something and spin it at high speed in the direction that it ratchets (holding the ratchet handle so the ratchet itself doesn't spin). Spin it for a solid 30 seconds or so. Kind of like a quick break-in. Then open it up and put a dab of moly grease in it. I didn't do it with my triangle ratchet but others I have and it does make a difference.

If it works, it works... I personally didn't like the way it's designed. The quick release seems to get in the way, switching from on and off especially.

The sockets are great though, as is everything else. The spinner handle is a bit weird to hold but I like how you can attach a ratchet to the end.

Overall it's an above average set... Quality is great, design not so much.

ATF worked wonders on that ratchet... I suggest it to anyone who doesn't like the ratchet.

Lube didn't seem to work so great... I dipped it in ATF and let it sit for an hour, took it out... played with it, put it back... let it for a few hours. Took it out, dried it and now it works awesome.

I just got my set in today and I am impressed. The set is packaged very nicely and I really like how the sockets are made. I need to use it to form a conclusive opinion but for $20 and some change, it seems like a nice little set.
