Hi guys and gals, I came across Trick Tools and saw there table that convert a portaband saw into a vertical bandsaw and a chop saw. My question to all of you is, has anybody tried this or have any experience with Trick Tools products in general?

I was just wondering, with 228 views why did I get only 2 comments? Doesn't anyone have any experience with Trick Tools the company or even experience with this Portaband stand?

That's almost the exact same ratio of comments/views as "The Vises of Garage Journal", arguably the most popular thread.
The title could make people think the thread is about gimmick tools, a subject which may have been exhausted.

OK, Here's a comment and as a bonus I rated it with lots of stars.

BTW: The video only has 3 comments on youtube.

Looking for info because I am up here in the great white north and really can't afford to gamble. My low Canadian dollars and shipping will make this an expensive purchase. It is for this reason that I have not purchased this item yet.

I wish to thank you Leaflessshadetree. I wish all those stars will bring more viewers and comments. I am almost certain that at least 1 GJ'er out there has 1 and has an opinion on it.

IMO, Trick Tools sells a lot of nice stuff that can be had for less money somewhere else. They seem to cater to the guy who has money and wants to build a nice auto based fab shop, but doesn't have the experience or history to know that he's being charged too much, or has the money and doesn't care.

I would get the SWAG stand and save a few bucks if it was me.

Hi 48548 did you watch the video showing the place where you can keep an extra blade. I find the manufacture actually thought this thing through. And I believe it can be used with the v28 bandsaw. But don't take my word for it. Contact the company. I am certain, I don't have to tell you, you probably already contacted them.

I agree with you dr_clyde, that the price is steep, but don't tell me the price of the Swag is a steal either. I was looking for alternatives (cheaper stands) to the Swag when I came across this table which is easily converted from chop saw to vertical bandsaw. But then again I don't see myself spending that kind of money without any research.

I might be hitting craiglist or eBay or amazon for some used or copies at a reduced price or maybe have someone local build something similar.

I have communicated with and purchased from Trick Tools in the past. They have been great to me and seem to be very selective about the products they carry.

As for the saw jig/adapter(??), I have no experience with it, but it looks to be a compromise tool. Probably a great option if you are very limited on space or budget. I agree that vertical setup looks very similar to the SWAG setup for which I have heard nothing but great reviews. The horizontal setup looks lacking in accuracy and capacity.

Here's another option that offer similar capabilities but with a much more robust horizontal configuration:

I only have the Milwaukee stand... hell that was a lot of money. Not the best picture but you get the idea. Not as useful, but not bad for 200.

I have the Poter Cable Portaband saw with a similar table.

I was looking for a table for my Milwaukee band saw, not necessarily a chop saw setup. But seeing the Trick tools, table made me think that I don't need to carry both band saws to my work site with both stands.

The trick one does not look like it would work for me. The battery mounting on the v28 is on the side and I think it would interfere with it bolting in. Oh well us v28 people surely get screwed on all the new tools and neat things. Note to self never buy a first year model. I should have waited and get the m18 instead of the v28 line.

Sorry. I did not realize the battery on the v28 was on the side. I assumed (you know what they say when you assume) that it was the same as the m18 or m28 in design.

That trick tools unit makes the swag unit look sad. If I didn't have a 2 full size band saws, I would buy the Trick unit.

So after looking at the Femi table for awhile I realized how hefty the body of the bandsaw is at the pivot point. And looking at my Milwaukee Deep cut bandsaw, I can't see how I can modify it to be able to use the Femi table. But I must say that I do like it.

So my quest for opinions or better and/or less expensive tables continues.

Do you want an upright unit? They can be had on craigslist for dirt cheap. I bought a new 14" bestbee for 125$

That is pretty cool. I wouldn't mind having one. Here is a slightly different version if the picture works, though not as nice lol. Drill press table raised up and off center. A piece of rebar bent into a hook and wedged into the table hole. It is actually very secure and stable. 1 inch uhmw table.

Well its sideways but you get the idea. Also zip tied the trigger and added a light switch with a female extension cord. Not perfect but cost me $0 not counting the saw.

I like the price of the Swag but the look of the Trick tools double duty stand. The features are well designed. Like a place for the cord , a place for an extra blade. The only modification I would make to it, is a box to fit over the top part so as to make it flat. It would facilitate carrying some light stuff on top without damaging the handle and/or the battery. If the Trick tool stand price was closer to that of the Swag I would buy it in a heartbeat. The base looks like a cage and I believe that the bandsaw would be somewhat protected in the trunk of my vehicle. So for this reason I can get rid of my blow molded case.

Another idea that just came to mind is to build a light weight case like the old sewing machines so that a thief cannot see that it is an expensive tool in the vehicle.

Sorry, I can't help you OP, but I've been reading this thread because that thing looks awesome. After the comments about the price I was surprised when I finally looked it up. It's not that high. Even still, I'd bet 1/4 of GJ members could make it.

Well if I were living in the USA, I am guessing the shipping would be free. But seeing that I am living in the great white north I have to add the exchange rate (close to 30%) plus shipping, plus our famous taxes. For this reason I am complaining. By the way the price does not include the table, that is an extre 30 something dollars.

I am certain that your estimate may be conservative on the number of GJers that can build this table. But I don't have a welder and I must admit that I have too many projects started and not finished, but close. You know what they say, close is only good in a horse shoe competition.

SWAG makes some really innovative stuff! I have one of their a Hulk benders and it's fantastic.

Ditto this. I just got on of their heavy duty finger press brake kits for the Harbor Freight 20 ton press. Love it! I know Swags portaband stand is popular with the guys on Pirate as well. I don't have a portaband at the moment, but if I get one I'll be ordering theirs.

If your are going to buy a premium portaband and separate table? IMHO I think you should look at the Femi 782 xl brand base model also sold Trick tools as another option. If your are going with a discount brand like Harbour Fright then it is favourable to buy separately.

So friends, did you ever get caught in a thought and not realize the obvious. Well here I am suggesting the Femi saw to someone else and it dawned on me, maybe I should forget about spending close to $300.00 US for a stand and buy a complete unit. The Femi 782 xl looks good for the low price of (wait for it) $499.00 on sale. tadah!!!!!!

So now the question is, does anybody have any experience with this saw?

I really think Trick Tools unit looks great except my portaband isn't a deep cut model. Even though the price seems high I wonder if they make something similar for a regular cut portaband?
