i want to install a 240v welder, so neighbor said he had some wire here it was triflex. it would be run overhead with an outlet high up what are your thoughts about using it

Its called triplex.

Typically that stuff is used for overhead service drops and doesnt have the proper insulation ratings to be used in doors.

Can u post some pics of the label on jacket.

What gauge is it?

What model welder will u be using?

its was from his 100a drop to his temp service pole. the welder is a 225a lincoln stick welder

Triplex is not even a recognized wiring method/ material by the NEC, nothing good comes out of using it indoors, a scary thought: There is a home in Northern Arkansas where they used triplex in steel studs to feed a subpanel. Note, there is no inspections where it was built other then septic systems.

These guys can get your project sorted for you, but you need to provide more details...

How far is the overhead run?

Do you want to follow code? Be safe but not follow code? Just weld?

Where is this terminating? A building? is there electric in it? Do you want service in it?

Maybe run the triplex over head sau 140 feet to the barn, then a service head 30 feet down to a small 60Amp subpanel- run a 240V welder receptacle and a 20A light and receptacle circuit. Maybe 2-300 for parts? just waging.

Triplex is not the proper wire to do so.

And u cant have loose conductors ran like that in a structure.

Buy the proper wire or cable...
